What dictates your DATES for vacation:Las Vegas?POLL?

First and foremost is the price of airfare.

How long we stay depends on comps. My husband is Diamond, so he gets 5 nights comped. I can usually get 2 nights, so that takes care of the room expenses.

If we have any juicy offers, we check airfare first. Last year we made four trips from Chicago.

Lift the throttle,Hillbillys!
No one died.
Lotsa broken axels.
The crowd goes wild on this @ 6:12.
There is not much of this mayhem going on at the LVMS,Y'all.

Dave, I've been working in drag racing for 20 years. I've worked at 52 different drag strips in the USA and 3 in Canada.

The Urban Hillbilly video crew is relatively new to the sport, and they have focused on smaller tracks and events, but they have captured some pretty cool stuff!

As to mayhem going on at LVMS for the national events; they run Top Fuel Dragsters and Funny Cars. Zero to over 320 miles-per-hour in 1,000 feet. That is mechanical mayhem that registers on the Righter Scale! The noise those cars make is physically disturbing - sets off cars alarms half a mile away! Slap a blower on a 500 cubic inch V-8 hemi engine, and feed it 90% nitro methane. No dyno has ever been made to measure the actual horsepower output of a top fuel engine, but typical estimates range from 8,000 to 10,000 horse power! They transfer that horse power through a one-speed transmission to two rubber tires that launch a car with the same G-forces as a space shuttle launch! Zero to 100 MPH in .8 seconds!

Of all of the tracks I've been to, The Strip at LVMS is my favorite! I'll be there again about 3 weeks.
#1 Jobs. My husband can only get away from work around Christmas or April - August and I can only take vacation December - August so we are in Vegas for a week before Christmas every year and 7-12 days in April or May. Summers are wonderful but short in ND so we try to stay home June - August.

#4 Airfare but that isn't as much of a trip breaker as #1. I start checking Allegiant early and often and always score good deals!

I just learned a very expensive lesson - don't try and book a room during a major fight! (May 2nd)

Next trip April 30-May 11!
Spring break? Mid March to mid April? What? Depends on what college turns them loose.
The times differ for each State.
I try to stay mid week 'cause the room rates double or triple for Fri/Sat and then goes back to CHEAP on Sundays.
Get there on a Sunday and use your comps, but weekend comps are rare for me.
The seasoned travelers/gamblers get those good rooms on week ends!
Been there during NASCAR week and it's crowded,Bob!
NOTHING like the National Broadcasters Convention. 96,000? Are you kidding me?
I posted the dates for 2015....

OH! One more thing that no one has mentioned:

If I plan to drive in the desert at night,I like to plan my trip around the full moon!!!!!!!
Easier to see the critters running across the road and the moon is very bright at night!
April 4th and May 4th!
If you choose to drive to Las Vegas,I would suggest those dates. My night vision is POOP!
Gotta see better to drive faster!

105 MPH out of Barstow is about right.Beatty,Tonopah,Susanville in 4th gear @ 3500RPM.
Get better headlights.HID'S or LED'S.
My car is old.'84 Toyota Supra.NO TURBO.NO AIR BAGS.It ain't stock,Bob.

Dave, I remember renting a 1984 Supra for a weekend back when they were new. That's a fun car to drive!

Now, here's some real speed. The chassis on a Top Fuel Dragster is made to flex and bow a little during acceleration. They aren't supposed to break. This afternoon at the NHRA Gatornationals in Gainesville Florida, Larry Dixon's chassis bowed, then broke. I've seen a lot of them break as the result of hitting something, but I've never seen this happen...

This is mayhem!
That ain't spring break, that's a chassis break! Larry is lucky.Crazy failure.
Spring break ladies and gentlemen.

WHOA! one hellacious ride..

Bob, I live in Brownsburg, IN where about 35% of the NHRA teams reside. I have several friends who drive motor coaches for the teams, one's a team chef, and a couple other buddies are crew guys. Before Johnny West moved to Phoenix, we were golf buddies. John's a long time legend in the business. I rarely see the drivers as they tend to live elsewhere.

I don't like racing and don't pay much attention to it. I can certainly hear them run when they come to town for the US Nationals, however. Luckily, most of that week I'm always in Vegas.

I've been to Indy (Clermont) 5 times. There are quite a few NHRA pro teams that make Brownsburg their home base. I played poker with Johnny West at a private game at the Plaza in Las Vegas that was set up by the PR guy for David Baca when Johnny was his crew chief.

This comes in real handy when going to a drag race!

Dave in Seattle, you need to shrink your photos! Their size totally screws up the page boundaries in this forum!
