What the hell is a "convenience fee"?

That's what I thought this thread might be about. They don't charge the "convenience fee" if you go the the airport and buy your plane tickets at the ticketing counter. I would think it would be more convenient for the company if you didn't tie up a counter person's time to make your reservation, inconveniencing their other customers standing in line behind you just wanting to check in for their flights. Most airlines charge extra if you actually want to talk to someone to make a reservation instead of doing it electronically online.

they probably realize people wont do it.

for me to get to jfk, id have to pay $10 for the airtrain alone, plus two rides on the subway, plus about four hours of my time.

If you dont want to pay the fee then dont click continue....Id rather pay a few extra bucks, get it out of the way, and never think about it again...that be the easy thing to do.

And who the heck goes to the ticket counter to buy tickets anymore for a pre-planned vacation? This aint the 80s
no one-- you used to go to a travel agent and they'd tell you the times and prices.

Do you think of a $50 convenience fee as being only a few extra bucks? I sure don't.
How about incorporating all the nonsense in the ticket price and not itemize out bullshit fees, and random charges so that the consumer doesn't feel anally raped.
It is all about capitalism and giving back to the “job creators”. Of course I'd say there ought to be laws against deceptive pricing, but then again that might create an environment of uncertainty for the "job creators".

Even more obnoxious, Stubhub charges a fee to print the tickets at home.

It is a lot better than paying $16.95 to have them FedExed to you. The print at home charge is about $5.00. What makes it rough for me is, I resell tickets. When I buy tickets off StubHub and print them at home, they are a VERY(!!!) hard sell. These are the ones that the ripoff artists buy and print off thirty or fourty copies and sell. Where StubHub screw people is, if you sell a ticket for $100, they charge you 15% ($15 in this case). Now they charge the buyer 10% to buy the ticket ($10 in this case). Now they have made 25% off your ticket.

How many tickets did you buy to have a convenience fee of $50? Im taking my mom to see Donny and Marie next week, bought two tickets from bestofvegas.com and paid $6 each for convenience fees?
