What is protocol for hand pay?

I am definitely not saying it is not appropriate to express your gratuity to the CSR, or any other casino employee. And, the only time I've ever had a W2G, I did tip a reasonable amount for my $1221.00.

I was offering my opinion, and observations, about why some AP's (and poker "pros") do not or may not tip. Having been in the biz, I used to feel the need to over tip as an example to others. I've had a true reversal in my thinking about the topic.

Yet, when asked "What is an appropriate tip?" (at the poker table), my answer is usually something to the effect of.....

"That is entirely up to you. Some generous people may give up to 10%. Thrifty players may give nothing. Generally for a nice pot, the equivalent of the ante or the blind bet is about average. It is totally up to you."

roadtrip: did I read this correctly? " And, the only time I've ever had a W2G, I did tip an reasonable amount for my $1221.00."

the ONLY time you had a W2G ???

how much do you tip the ups and fedex drivers that make deliveries to your business? Do you give your accountant a nice tip every month when he finishes the books?

The only time I've had a W2G playing a VP machine. Yes.

I did not start playing VP until 2009 in Vegas, where there were 100% + games. So I prepared, studied and learned before my trips, trained on software, and even sat with strategy cards at the machines.

That does not mean I am not very knowledgeable in the methodology of advantage play. During my roadtrip days, I always scouted the floors for banking slots, and made money on those, with my fair share of the occasional W2G.

And I have had quite a few W2G's from poker rooms. My fair share of bad beat jackpots, drawings, tournaments, etc.

But only one resulting from video poker.

Mississippi did not have "good" VP when I used to go regularly. They had lot's of advantage slots. ::: shrug :::

But my forte has always been poker.

I give $20 to the person who hands me the cash (never hit for more than $1800 in Vegas) and at least another $20 to the bartender because I'm almost always playing VP at a VP bar.
Never had a hand pay. Hoping to have this tipping dilemma in June.
First, this is not about tipping UPS or FedEx or accountants. My clients don't tip me... (but once I was offered a "cash tip" because I went out of my way to do something-- and I refused it) but Ive received gifts ranging from being taken out to dinner to getting a pricey watch.

The issue is tipping when you get a handpay.

until someone tells me tips on handpays are inappropriate and you shouldnt tip when you get a handpay I will continue to tip. I am grateful for the service, I know that these floor workers are generally underpaid and rely on tips, and I consider tipping part of my karma when getting a jackpot. heck, Ive tipped cleaning people, CWs after a big win, and even dropped off a hundred at the cage a couple of times.

At the same time I wouldnt say anyone was wrong for NOT tipping. Heck, casino workers never expect you to tip when you are losing. I dont tip at craps when I am losing, but when I am shooting and make a pass I can make a bet for the crew.

But if being an AP means you have to watch every penny so you dont tip I don't want to be an AP. I have heard about the professional poker players who dont tip when they cash in tournaments because they think the tournament fees should cover the dealers. I think that is sad especially when these same pros probably make a million dollars or more from their endorsements and appearing on celebrity TV shows and author books.

And thats how I feel about tipping and gambling. Now if you want to talk about tipping or giving a gift at Christmas to the FedEx driver and the postal worker, and your doctor, let's leave that for another discussion.
tip your doctor???
I was using creative license when I said "tip the doctor" (lol)

But I have given holiday gifts to my doctors including lovely bottles of wines, baskets of cookies for their offices, etc.
