What were you doing when 9/11 happened?

I had just gotten back from Vegas the night before and I got up the next morning to go to work. I accidently over slept so I took a shower and as I pulled out of my garage and turned on the radio they just announced that the first tower had been struck and then shortly afterward the second.

Sitting in traffic I was getting really anxious and a little nervous wondering if it was going to happen here as well.

When I finally got to work I remember that someone went and got a TV and we all basically huddled around the TV all day watching the news. Since it is a hospital that I work in they pretty much made a overhead announcement that everyone was on call and that if a disaster happened here we all had to report to work.

One of my coworkers in a another department was supposed to come home on 9/11 but ended up being stuck there for a another week and ended up taking a bus home. He said the mood in casino's was very somber and no one wanted to gamble.

As soon as I got home I gave all my family hugs and kisses.

DonDiego was at home in Prescott, AZ. He was performing his morning ablutions with CNBC on in the background for any breaking investment news. They misinterpreted the first reports as a small private aircraft accidentally colliding with one of the towers.
I awoke to the news on my clock radio and turned on CNN right away.
I was driving to work when the first plane struck and by the time I arrived at work the second one struck.
We were all in the conference room in San Antonio watching in disbelief when the plane struck the Pentagon.
We had 20 employees and thousands of customers inside the Pentagon so once that plane hit a very somber frightened atmosphere took over.

Our employees all got out safely but of course many others did not.

I was able to visit the Pentagon memorial last October after a management meeting. We went as a group and thought about those that made it and those that did not.

None of us will feel the same degree of safety we did before that day.

Probably that was the intent and it succeeded.

Sleeping.I had just gotten off the redeye from Vegas agout 2 hours before the stuff hit the fan.
I was in my 8th grade classroom. I got updates whever I had a planning period or lunch. I listened to news radio all the way home. I was stunned when the 5 pm news showed the footage.

I still tear up watching all of the specials on TV.

My husband's cousins were in LV and were scheduled to leave that day. Didn't happen. After two reservations then cancellations, they ended up driving back to the Chicago area. They said they got the last available rental car.

I was sitting around a pool in the Dominican Republic on a one week vacation when one of our group came by

and told us that a plane had gone into the 1st tower. None of us wanted to believe it but

he told us he wasn't making it up. I left the pool area and headed back to my room to

put on CNN. I sat there all day in disbelief. It was so hard for my eyes and mind to comprehend.

We were suppose to come home on the following Sunday but because of the no fly zone we were

held over for another day at the resort at no cost to us. I finally arrived home very late on the

Monday evening and actually got into my home about 3:30 am Tuesday and proceeded to leave a voice

message on my boss' phone to let him know I was home but was not going to be working that

day. All of our lives changed forever that day.

May all those souls that were lost that day in New York, Pa, Washington Rest in Peace.

I was on the way to a funeral. One of the salespeople I worked for had passed away. My boss was driving several of us, and we did not have the car radio on. When we arrived at the funeral home, we were told about it. The funeral went on, but everyone was in shock.
Was in Las Vegas staying at Harrah's. Tuesday 9/11, up for a slot tourney.
Woke up 6am or so, flipped on TV.
NBC news, first tower was already hit, Brokaw etc. were guessing...had the plane gotten off course by mistake?

WAtched as the second tower was hit, then Brokaw etc. said it's a bin Laden deal.
Architechs were discussing what it will take to repair the towers. Yeah, right.
Even my non-architech husband and I said no way...they are going down...
People get out of the way for God's sake!!

We watched them fall. Pentagon.

By the time we got dressed and downstairs it was controlled chaos.
Planes were being grounded and all renal cars in the city were spoken for.
People were actually buying cars to get home, or so we heard.

Almost right away nearly every hotel was flying an American flag outside and "God bless America" on marquees.

It was a somber mood but I won't say that nobody was gambling.

Later that evening, or maybe the next evening, they had a parade of fire trucks and police cars down the Strip.

We had to stay 4 extra nights before we could get a flight home.

At the airport, one restaurant was open for breakfast.
They served eggs and bacon in a plastic bowl with only plastic spoons for utensils.
I guess they thought somebody could attack somebody with a plastic fork.

We had just arrived from home the day before on the red eye from Las Vegas (our first trip, and we had just gotten married). My bff called to ask if my mother in law had gotten home, and I couldn't figure out why until she told me. (there was a group coming home on Monday night) The tv in the kitchen was on without any sound and I saw all of the airports closed on the east coast (the station was on the weather channel-figured a hurricane/tropical storm). Never imagined. Watched the second plane hit while on the phone. An extremely surreal moment(as for all). I will never forget. Still is an emotional memory to this day and always will be.
