That's what I do , ...... and I've never had a problem with the person getting out of the seat.

Usually they even apologize.

Agree about asking nicely. If you get the cold "smart ass" shoulder.... have a casino employee ask them.
The only time I ever had an issue with this was at Dover Downs during a promotional day.
If your players card is in play at certain times you could win free slot play.
I sat at a machine to play and just when I was about to put my card in I noticed a card was left in the machine. Ppl leave them in a lot and I will take it out and leave it either on top or next to it in case the person comes back to retrieve it.
Well this woman got all kind of pissed off at me screaming "that's my card in that machine don't you touch it". I asked her if she was playing it. She said no, I'm waiting for the drawing.
I got up and brought a slot host over. The host told her exactly what I knew to be true. Your card has to be active in play to be in the drawing, not just sitting in the machine.
She got sooo pissed off and went down the aisle and pulled a dozen or so cards our of machines.
Stupid ppl.
Sometimes ppl leave their cards in hoping the next person won't have one and won't pull theirs out.
On our last night at the Silverton, two guys were sitting in the last two seats at the bar and not playing. Now I usually don't try and force people out of their seats...even if they are only drinking beer....but it was our last night and the bar was full and Faye was with me and wanted to play. I said something to the bartender and he asked them to move to the other side of the bar. I wound up sending them a couple of drinks for the inconvenience.

We've gotten to know some of the bigger players at the VP bar in Harrah's AC. Harrah's flies them in from the Boston area about twice a month. When these guys show up the bartenders will kick out anyone sitting at a machine that's not playing so that these guys can play.
