Whats a good tip for a mover?r

I'm sending stuff crosss county, from NY to Vegas.
Not a lot of furniture- a chest, a dresser and a simple wooden hutch. Two home computers, a treadmill, a Home gym, two large screen TVs( that I am packing myself), about fifty medium size boxes, seven large boxes, six big tubs, and about sixty boxes of books.
Everything will be on the first floor of my house, three steps down to the sidewalk and twenty five feet to the truck.
On the receiving end, its a second floor apartment set well off the street.
I was told that two of the people will be the same on both ends and the third will be a local employee.
I was told they expect a tip. So what is a good tip? i'd like to make sure my stuff is handled well.
Interested in the answers here myself, we're moving soon and have been packing slowly for past few months. I plan on using our son and friends for the most of the move. Young guys are always interested in making an extra 500 or so bucks. It'll still be cheaper than pro movers. Last time we moved, the movers charged almost 4K and we only moved a mile and a half away. We may have to get some people on the other end tho.

Are you already committed to them?

We have a person who is moving from L.A. to Maryland. She said that she went with some service that ships her stuff by train to Maryland, and that it was much cheaper. I know nothing further than that.
I can still cancel, but I did a lot of looking. The books are expensive and conditions is all important.

Try PODS. They provide storage containers and transport them cross country. I'm guessing you can have them drop off the containers and load them at your leisure and unload them in the same manner. Im sure it will cost more to have them tied up a few extra days but you won't be rushed setting things up.

Two large screen TVs, computers, you want the job done right.
And sixty boxes of books...major heavy.
And a second floor apartment.

Is $200 each person too much? Too little?

Tell them (before they start) they get half up front, and half when you confirm the goods arrived undamaged.

DonDiego suggests an excellent tip would be: "Be sure to bend your knees when you lift that."

google the question..what to tip moving men.... they said 5% of cost,, but to me that seems a little low

I originally was going to use pods but they were more money and couldn't guarantee how long it would take. My complex also only gives 24 hours from delivery to pickup. That would mean busting my butt unloading it myself in Vegas, in May.
The older and wealthier I get, the lazier I get. Fifteen years ago, I could easily carry two long boxes at a time, up a flight of stairs. Not any more. A hundred trips up and down the stairs doesn't appeal to me.

Do you really want a bunch of strangers knowing what you have in your apartment????? Just sayin'. What about having a "Meet-Up BBQ" for people on the board to help you move in???? I'm sure there's a couple strong backs around here
