What's happening in Vegas 3/22- 3/26?

What's happening in Vegas 3/22- 3/26? Is there something major happening in Vegas that week? Both flights and rooms, just about everywhere, are very outrageous.
March Madness? (NCAA basketball)
There is a very large convention from 3/22 to 3/26 (CONEXPO) with 140,000 expected to attend.
CONEXPO with 140,000 attendees is indeed the big convention running from March 22-26,2011. There are a few other minor ones, but this will be the one affecting the prices. CONEXPO-CON/AGG - Held every three years, it showcases equipment, products, services and technologies for the construction industries.

Garth Brooks & Lady Gaga are also the big shows in town that weekend, no doubt adding to those numbers as well.

The big convention is what is raising the rates I was going that week but moved my trip one week later.
March Madness adds a lot of traffic, according to a Host.
I didn't realize ConExpo was going on when we booked our trip arriving on 3/26. We were fortunate to find the Mirage for $66 on the 26th. I'm now worried they'll change the rate even though we have a confirmation e-mail. I haven't seen any prices dropping that nite, only going up, and the e-mail says "this is an AVERAGE RATE but actual rates may vary" . Has anyone ever run into a situation where your confirmed rate wasn't honored?
That won't happen, XAN.
Truthfully, I've been to Vegas lots of times during the so-called biggest conventions and during March Madness, and never noticed big crowds or inability to get a decent rate or comped where I have a play history. Some of the hotels raise their rack rates for certain weeks and days and some hold back a lot of rooms, but not all do. They can get those rates from cold callers. If you have a confirmed deal that is what you will get it for. 140,000 attendees for a convention really isn't that big a deal for Las Vegas.
Thanks, Candy. We've never had it happen before either but I worry there's always a first time!
