Um, because Blackhawks isn't a racial slur.

There is evidence that the term Redskin is also not a racial slur, . . . or at least it wasn't originally.

According to Smithsonian Institution senior linguist Ives Goddard, the first authentic documented use of the term redskin was in 1769 by Illinois tribal chiefs involved in delicate negotiations with the British to switch loyalties away from the French.
"I shall be pleased to have you come to speak to me yourself," said one statement attributed to a chief named Mosquito. "And if any redskins do you harm, I shall be able to look out for you even at the peril of my life." The French used the phrase "peaux Rouges" -- literally "red skins" -- to translate the chief's words.

There had been many second-hand articles and fictitious versions of the origin of the term "redskin" over the last 2 centuries, but Mr. Goddard's research is now recognized as the most accurate version.

It is only in the last few decades that the cause of eliminating the term "redskins" has become a legal matter in which the term is defined as a "racial slur", by Indian activists like Suzan Shown Harjo.

Eventually everyone will be clothed in grey clothing, reside in identical quarters, and restrict speech to, say, a vocabulary of 2000-or-so approved words. It will be a paradise, . . . for some.

Perhaps football teams will be restricted to more benign symbols of strength and athletic ability, . . . like maybe flower blossoms. If so, DonDiego suggests the Dallas Pansies be the first to adopt the new guidance.

Even as South Carolina and major retailers officially disconnect themselves from the Confederate flag, the controversial symbol continues to have a prominent presence at Kid Rock's concerts. On Monday, the National Action Network's Michigan chapter protested outside the Detroit Historical Museum, which houses a Kid Rock exhibit, demanding that the rocker stop displaying the Confederate flag, Deadline Detroit reports. In a statement to Fox News' Megyn Kelly, Kid Rock relayed his message to those upset in his native Detroit: "Please tell the people who are protesting to kiss my ass/Ask me some questions."

Although Kid Rock was born and raised in Michigan, a Union state during the Civil War, the rocker has adopted the Confederate flag to highlight his Rebel Soul, the name of his 2012 album. In recent years, Rock has retreated to his estate in rural Alabama. Rock also toured extensively with Lynyrd Skynyrd, another – albeit Southern – act that made frequent use of the Confederate flag. However, Rock's current trek does not display the flag.

A representative for Kid Rock declined to comment.

As Fox News points out, Kid Rock aligns himself with the Southern pride connotations of the flag and not its racial implications, since Rock's son Robert Ritchie Jr., is biracial, and as of December 2014, the First Kiss singer also has biracial grandchildren.

Despite the controversy, the Detroit Historical Museum stood by the rocker, saying his contributions to the Motor City outweigh his appropriation of the Confederate flag, which does not feature at all in the exhibit.

"The Kid Rock Music Lab is one of 10 permanent exhibitions at the Detroit Historical Museum," the museum said in a statement, WXYZ reports. "Kid Rock’s contribution to Detroit’s music history is significant and warrants his inclusion along with other key figures like Stevie Wonder, Bob Seger, Aretha Franklin and Eminem. There are no displays of the Confederate flag in the Kid Rock Music Lab or anywhere else inside the Detroit Historical Museum."

Why is there so much confusion in this thread?

The Walmart baker didn't know what an ISIS flag looked like. I don't know what it looks like. Now Walmart knows and they won't be baking any ISIS flag cakes unless they get tricked again. Don't act like Walmart has an official policy against the Confederates but not against ISIS.

The Lord's prayer doesn't belong at a government/state event. Not everyone is a Christian. This has nothing to do with balls but has to do with Constitutional law.

Kid Rock is a private citizen and he can fly the Confederate flag and play the part of a good ol' boy if he wants. He's free to fly the flag and others are free to protest against this choice.

Turns out CNN doesn't know what the ISIS flag looks like either. This one was of a bunch of dildos (although some of the shapes are unfamiliar to me.)

Very well said Snidely. That part about private citizen vs. government seems to be the part so many people can't grasp. The Southern Cross, just like the Nazi flag, the Rising Sun and the flag of the black panthers have no place being hung at government buildings. If you want to fly it in front of your home go right ahead. I just sure as hell hope you don't live in my neighborhood. I do have one idiot that lives just outside the entrance to my neighborhood and he has a rebel flag flying in his yard. That is his right just like it is my right to call him an idiot.
