Here's the situation. A player I know wants to improve his Caesars/Harrahs Tier Score.
He prefers video poker over slots and knows that each dollar spent on video poker earns half what each dollar would earn on slots.
So his question is how to maximize his video poker play to get the maximum tier score on video poker.
So, we discussed that he should play the less variable game of Jacks or Better where his bankroll is likely to last longer, giving him more coin-in and higher tier score.
Then we discussed if he should perhaps alter the strategy of Jacks or Better? This one came to me out of left field, because I never had any kind of discussion like this before.
Here is the example he gave me.
If you are dealt Jh 10s 2d 2c 5h the correct play is to hold the pair of twos.
But he found stats that show that when you hold a pair of twos (non paying pair by itself) you have a 28.7% chance of getting a winning hand (another pair or another deuce or full house), but if you hold the single jack you have a winning hand 33.8% of the time. However, holding the pair of deuces (non paying pair) when it wins will give you a bigger payoff amount, while pairing up the jack only gives you your money back.
He reasons that just getting your money back (pairing the jack) will better serve his purpose of helping him achieve a higher tier score.
OK, this is beyond me. I put this out for the experts to advise.
thanks.
