WHER to stay on Freemont Sreet?

when I finally get back to Vegas, which may be next April, I plan on spending a couple of nights downtown for the first time. It will probably be the GN Rush Tower.

I can't go straight from Caesars to the Fremont or Vegas Club. Baby steps
We like staying at the GN but playing anywhere else. The rooms and pool are why we stay there. Their level of customer service is sorely lacking although, that said, I just made reservations for 3 nights in September and the girl I was talking with was very personable and helpful. If only everyone there was like that!

How long can downtown as a whole survive is the best of the bunch can only get $42 a night for their rooms?

Midweek summer is the cheapest time of year. Luxor has rates from $45-$65 next month and down to $40 in August plus they throw in a free daily buffet.

That will do it, free food...

Where is the best place to stay downtown???. I have stayed everywhere downtown, GN, Fitz, Plaza, Vegas Club, 4 Queens, Binions, Freemont, Main Street, California and before they closed,, Lady Luck..

I never made it back to my room a few times...I usually remember my hotel but not the room.

Someone I travel with always has to write my room number on my hand after we check in.. Before we go out..

A few times, never made it.. Call it, "Hang em high". I once told everyone at the craps table, "I am going to buy the place".. I still dont own the Golden Gate and never made it back to my room .. I tried to go to my room,, inserted my key card,,, No green light,, I slid down the wall and wrapped my arms around a warm plate of chicken wings,,,er bones and slept on the floor..

Time for me to reveal the number one spot to say downtown.. No its not, Greyhound Bus Terminal, Downtown Bus Stop or even the RV park across from Main Street Station...

The best place to stay downtown.. Yes,,, EL CORTEZ... You want to stay make sure you stay in a Tower Room for a few bucks more.. Price is right, rooms are large.. Casino is great and the best low roller prices in town.. Great blackjack, craps.... And yes, slots..If you want a pool,,, Forget it... Then the GN is the place for you..

I can tell you.. I have been to Vegas 30 times and always try to stay downtown. I fell in love with the El Cortez.. It's about a block from the Freemont but the short walk is always safe. Try the El Cortez once for the price.. If you dont like it... The rest of downtown awaits.. Enjoy you stay, have fun and if you dont win... HAVE FUN....
We're also going to stay DT for 2 nights(sept 28-29) before moving to strip for a week. Prices and info for the following(room prices are total for both nights)
-main street station,$110 deluxe king. Buffet $14 and thurs is steak and shrimp. 777 brew pub, reviews are good for bar food and pizza.
-golden gate,$70. $1.99 shrimp cocktail.Dupars for good breakfast.
-las vegas club,$70 king N.tower.
-golden nugget,$118.Buffet(which i heard was good)$19,$12 and $11.Vic and anthonys steakhouse.red sushi.lillies asian.grottos.
binions,no rooms.Have a steakhouse.
-4 queens,$90.
-fremont,$100.buffet$14,$11,$8,new members free.
-fitz,$73.Krispy kreme doughnuts(which i plan on finding out times for hot fresh ones,YUMMY X10).Don B's steakhouse.
-El cortez$62cabana suite.F&B credit for new sign ups. Flame steakhouse, which we plan on hitting,MRB coupon for it also.

The things I'm definitely planning on is flame and magnolias for steaks, krispy kreme and 777 brewpub. We're leaning toward staying at GN,after reviews and having the pools, seems like what we want and price diff isn't all that much diff. Just my 2 cents. Good luck and enjoy whereever you end up.

Karen staying downtown gives yourself an extra bonus.

You will never be to far from shoving down 1 or 2 or 50 deep fried twinkes or oreos.
Thanks Gang,
Booked the GN, but no coupon booklet, they were on another offer.
WAH..................
HUGGY and thanks for the help.
Wil be there 2 days.
I see I'm too late....however, I am surprised only one person mentioned the El Cortez. The Tower rooms are good and their new Cabana suites are very good...plus, as mentioned, they have GREAT blackjack rules/tables. (We have stayed at both)

The next time we visit Las Vegas, however, we will be staying at the newly renovated, totally redone Plaza. I have never stayed there before and look forward to seeing what the rooms look like since they have been totally 'upgraded'. However, a point of fact, I will still be playing blackjack at the El Cortez...just a short walk down the 110 degree Fremont Street! lol.
