Where to stay if visiting Hammond Casino?

We went to Chicago and stayed in Joliet (free room thanks to Harrahs).
We drove over to see the Hammond property AND LOVED IT!!!!!
Best Diamond Club ever.
But no hotel and nothing close to looking 'safe to stay' near there.
Anybody have any suggestions?

We can always stay at Joliet...but would be nice not to have the drive back and forth.

There are decent hotels on Calumet Ave just off of Interstate 80. I'm guessing that's 15 minutes from the casino's. It' safe, has decent restaurants, but nothing special. If you want to spend a bunch, you can be on Michigan Ave in Chicago in 45 minutes, but that'll run you a pretty penny.

Merrilville, IN is about 15 minutes away and is a great place to stay. Lots of restaurants, movie theaters, and shopping...and its safe.

Hampton Inn, Munster IN.

It's about 1/2 block off Calumet Avenue, about 15 to 20 minutes away from Horseshoe. Just head straight north on Calumet and you will run right into the Horseshoe.

Munster is a very nice town. I think the Hampton Inn is the only motel/hotel in that town, but I could be wrong. Some good restaurants in Munster also.
