DonDiego don' need no steenkin' explanation!
Chilcoot needn't concern himself with DonDiego's frustration. Things change.
DonDiego would prefer America's interests were foremost in everything that happens anywhere and anytime. In the present developing situation DonDiego opines Mr. Putin will achieve pretty much what he wants, . . . possession of Crimea and control of whatever portion of the rest of Ukraine he chooses for now.
There's one hell-of-a-lot of Russian arms and men heading to the Ukrainian border as DonDiego types.
There may be some fighting, . . . but Ukraine stands alone; Western Europe ceded responsibility for their protection to the United States long ago and the United States isn't interested in this fight. Military damage will be limited to Ukraine, for now.
Economic damage from sanctions
could spiral out of control
if the US does anything serious [unlikely] and
if Europe goes along [unlikely, as Russian oligarchs' cash is providing them profits], and
if Putin retaliates with something serious economically [the US debtload is a burden subject to perturbations with long-term consequences] or internationally [say a stronger Russia/China alliance through trade in weapons and/or Russian resources; or arms deals with Iran or Syria, could instigate mischief immediate and long-term.]
But Secretary of State Kerry knows all this, so DonDiego expects not much to happen.
Is it true that today after Secretary of State Kerry and Foreign Minister Lavrov entered the meeting room, Minister Lavrov turned to Secretary Kerry and said "Why the long face?"

Things didn't go well today.
