What a day. I have never attended anything like this and am really impressed with the pomp and etiquette. It was very long though, it took over an hour to be cleared through all the security. We stood outside for the arrival for 45 minutes or so, then another 2 hours inside. I was very proud of our 7 year old who behaved extremely well the whole time. I would not have at that age.
I was impressed with the number of people lined up in what I call cold weather (it could have been much worse), there were many thousands. I saw a couple of "anti" signs across/down the street during the arrival but no disturbances.
I had dinner with the family of a Presidential Guard officer I was at BullDog (OCS) Quantico with. I was hoping for some good gossip about the White House but he is the type of Marine that will honor and protect the office of President no matter who is sitting in the oval office.
I asked about Obama not attending the funeral tomorrow and he inferred that it was due to security.
I visited briefly this afternoon with Judge Torruella who informed me that Justice Scalia was a more avid hunter than I thought and had hunted ducks at the Judge's place in Maine. I also learned that Justice Kagan is also a bird hunter. Who'd a thunk it?
My wife has not spoken at length with any of the former Alito Clerks she knows from her time here, and is not likely to do so. The only Supreme Court gossip she has gleaned is that Ginsburg still locks her Clerks in Chambers and makes them cry occasionally. She is at a reception of former Clerks tonight so maybe someone will get drunk and blab something juicy.
I just hope to talk my wife into stopping over in Vegas on our way home Sunday. <<<<<Look, Vegas related post!!!!!
