Who LIVES in Las Vegas?

Our goal is to winter here. We like the best of both and being here in the winter gets us out of the cold and snow. To move here full time is an option but, I don't think we would be in "Vegas" proper. We would no doubt be in an area surrounding the city.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Moving to LV is like moving anywhere. It needs to be for the right reasons. Moving to Vegas because you like vacationing there makes about as much sense as moving to Orlando because you love Disneyworld!

About fourteen years ago, my best friend and his wife moved to Vegas. Bob retired early from a local utility here in Seattle. Backround was that they loved going there including many golf trips he and I made. This was a decision well thought out on their part and they did their homework. At the time their friends fell into two camps. One that wished them well and felt it would work. The other thought they were making a big mistake moving to their favorite vacation spot.

Fast forward 14 years and you'll find they they love the weather and benefits casino give locals without draining their bank accounts. They have never looked back. The only thing they miss are friends and family left behind. Living LV means lots of visits though.

On the other hand, a teamate of mine lived in LVfrom the mid 90s until about '01 or '02. He and his wife both liked the town, but VP drained them until they moved back here.

I've found LV to be like most towns except the casinos. Bottom line is that you need to do your research before making such a move.

Good Luck!

Do those of you who have homes in and around Vegas have basements?
I don't think there are basements in Vegas. Anyway, I don't have one.

Sounds like there are some good stories and bad ones about living in LV. I for one am not planning to move there anytime soon. Maybe when I retire, which won't be until another 25-30 years. But I do visit as much as possible, because I love the town. Some of you said the locals don't really go to the strip, unless you have visitors. My friend would do the same thing. He got so sick of the strip, hence the reason he moved to Henderson.

The last time I was out in Vegas (about a month ago), my girlfriend and I took the liberty of actually going away from the strip and drive around town. I couldn't believe how cheap it was to live out there. Regular apartments had signs that said "$99 move in special"!!!!!! Saw rents for $400 a month!!!!!! I have never seen anything like that out here in San Diego. Cheapest I have ever seen was about $795 for a studio and that's in the damn ghetto!

For whatever it's worth, I love LV and will visit it as much as possible. My girlfriend always tells me that we need to visit other places like San Francisco, Santa Barbara etc... I still like LV better.
We live here - have been here about 25 years and love it. We never do anything without a 2 for 1 and we really enjoy having had the pleasure to meet many of the LVA people at the meet & greets. Most of our family and friends live out of town, but that is the beauty of living in Las Vegas. They all come to visit!
Basements in Las Vegas are pretty rare and are mostly found in higher priced homes.

I've lived here for 12 years. For me the enjoyment of Las Vegas boils down to the amount of discretionary income. I have a lot of discretionary income now, but during the years when I didn't I would have preferred living elsewhere. If I didn't think a very high income was around the corner I would have moved away for sure. Especially after the time I was burglarized.
I was born and raised in Vegas. I have been in real estate since 2002. I love this town and doubt I will ever move away.
