Who "does" Thanksgiving in Vegas?

In years past we have spent the weekend after Thanksgiving in Vegas, sometimes arriving Thursday evening. It is one of those opportune times that we can take advantage of.

A few years ago our extended family experienced deaths right at the Thanksgiving holidays three years in a row. This has put a damper on the traditional home gathering and family meal. Starting last year we are all meeting in Vegas. It's certainly a lot easier to go out to a restaurant than to cook the big meal at home though my wife and I did enjoy it. I don't know if we will ease the holiday back home or keep going to Vegas. Last year was fun and enjoyable for the whole extended family. We'll see how it goes this year.
I'm going for Thanksgiving this year (first time). Most of the feedback I've received has warned me of 2 hour buffet lines. I'm actually flying out on Thanksgiving day....fares on Southwest were $100 cheaper flying on Thanksgiving Day vs the day before/after.
Good plan, especially since you tried it last year with good results.

Take some family albums/photos along, pass them around, revisit good memories including the departed.

When loved ones die on or near a holiday, sadness hangs in the air on that day for years. It can be really hard to get past, depending on the circumstances, and your family suffered this three years in a row. Not fair.

Still, you know those who passed away probably would not want you to erase treasured family traditions on their behalf. Make your Vegas gathering a new tradition as long as it works for you.

"Ease the holiday back home" when/if it feels right. When you do, you'll have fun Vegas Thanksgiving photos and memories to share!
We've done TG in LV around 4 times and doing it again this year. While the buffets are ridiculous, we've never had a problem finding a nice restaurant for a traditional or semi-traditional turkey dinner.

I'd do it if it were drivable, say no more than 6-7 hours. air travel for thanksgiving is too much hassle, too much $$.

I wonder if you get there early if they are that long?
Went to Cafe Lux at the Venetian last Thanksgiving. I thought it was delicious.
When my family and I went to LV for Thanksgiving, we usually arrived at the buffet around 10 AM to beat the crowds. As an alternative, we've also gone to Asian restaurants on the assumption that many of the Asian clientele were not that into celebrating an American holiday. Ping Pang Pong was a particular favorite.
Personally I have not but others that I know said the exact same thing about the long wait times for the buffets/restaurants. Every time Thanksgiving roll around I contemplate going to Las Vegas but never done it because of the fear factor of having to endure the long lines.
Only the buffets have long lines. Never had an issue at a restaurant.
