Why even bother with Vegas anymore?

I agree with you. We can drive to AC in an hour or a few extra mins. to hit the new De. casinos.
Another option is the just over an hour flight and hour shuttle to Foxwoods. All for a fraction of the cost of Vegas.

I am less then an hour to Foxwoods, and been to AC one time, and the main reason Vegas is so much better then any other state in the country is SPORTS BETTING.

It is only legal in Nevada, and does not look like the laws will change anytime soon. It will continue to only be available in Nevada.

Not too mention the warm weather, and over 90 casinos, buffets, shows, and great people to meet.

The buffet at Foxwoods in Connecticut is awful, and you have no other choices when you walk out the door.
1'st off, let me say I enjoy this forum.
We don't. I'm estimating we have been to LV at least 40 times since the mid '80's. Last trip was in '05. Don't get me wrong..we always enjoyed our trips...the shows...good food...comped rooms..decent gambling. The last trip in '05...something changed for both of us...I guess you could say the thrill was gone. I know this is going to be hard to believe, don't miss it.
In Los Angeles we have about 15 Indian casinos within a 2 hours drive. Las Vegas is a 5 hours drive. However the Indian casinos could never replace Las Vegas.

Personally, it is difficult for me to imagine anything more depressing that gambling at a local or indian casino.

Local/indian casino: "I've been gambling for a while now, and my luck seems to be down, guess I'll do something else. I could: (1) go to the restroom; (2) eat at the mediocre buffet or restaurant; (3) spend some time watching all of the sleepy casino patrons; (4) buy a ticket to whatever country act or half-assed 60s/70s/80s band is playing the theater; (5) gamble some more; (6) look at the bland landscape; or (7) go home."

Las Vegas: "I've been gambling for a while now, and my luck seems to be down, guess I'll do something else. I could: (1) walk around and look at the crazy architecture; (2) walk around and look at the neon lights; (3) have an amazing meal at a fabulous restaurant; (4) go see a Cirque show; (5) go see a headliner; (6) spend some time looking at all the freaks and weirdos; (7) go to a different casino that is less than 5 minutes away; (8) look at the mountains; (9) go to a strip club; (10) go to a museum; (11) go watch the FSE/Bellagio Fountains/Mirage Volcano/Sirens of TI (OK, maybe not that one); (12) go to a night club; (13) go sing Karaoke at Ellis Island; (14) go to a comedy club; (15) go to a fancy mall and look at the crazy things that rich people buy..."

In Atlantic City, you can do all of the above, with the exception of looking at the mountains - they have an ocean to view instead. They have a water show on the boardwalk and also a laser light show to view at the Trop. It's a 5.5 hour drive for me to get to AC, and a 6 hour plane ride to Vegas - not counting the 1.5 hours at airport for screening and expense of plane and parking.

Still: There is no place like Vegas to me. There is excitement in the air the moment you get off the plane, and you don't get that feeling anywhere else. When you can scope out a decent airfare, coupled with the comped rooms and meals, you just can't beat it!! It is just a different world from casinos that are close to home. The minute you get on the plane to go home, you want to plan the next trip back. There will never be a gambling destination that equals Las Vegas.

Atlantic City is a town that has gambling. Vegas is a gambling city. If you cant tell the difference, perhaps Vegas isn't for you.
I live 40 min from Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods, and go to both often. I still go to Vegas 2-3 times a year. There is so much more to see and do besides gamble. They drink service in the CT casinos is painfully slow, the machines are super tight, The dining options are limited. I go mainly to play poker. In Vegas, the drinks come fast, you get full bottles of beer, as opposed to tiny glasses, there is a feeling of excitment in the air, many different attrations, things to see and to, great day trip options, 24 hr drink service, and so much more.

Amen brother. Vegas is a 4 hour drive for me, and 3.5 hours if I am doing 80mph. The only thing going for the Indian casinos are some of the concerts they put on.

I have visited Atlantic City three times and felt the casinos were gradually going down each visit, although I didn't visit the Borgata. I did visit the world famous White House Sub Shop. I had to wait in line for a very long time, but ended up with an excellent sandwich. I almost enjoyed walking the boardwalk more than visiting the casinos. For easterners it is a quick and convenient place to go, but it doesn't hold a candle to Vegas.
