Why even bother with Vegas anymore?

As business owners out trips are short and have to fit in with long weekends (except for Christmas).
So we don't have the time to go and check out a new city where it can take all the time we have to even find the decent restaurants, shows, destinations etc.
Vegas we hit the ground running - know where to eat, gamble, drink, stay, be entertained. It's Disneyland for adults!
Haven't found anywhere better yet.

I can have the same benefits as Vegas (free room & food) much closer to home. Only a 2 hour drive which save a lot of
money with regards to high air fair. I have just as much fun close to home as Vegas and have won more close to home
than I have in Vegas. The last 4 years I have flown over to Vegas from Tucson or Phoenix every fall and just found that
the machines are tight, tight, tight. Not so closer to home. I may have spent my last time in Vegas last November?????

As far as I'm concerned.....a casino is a casino. You walk in and they have the same carpets and same games all over the place. The only difference is the name on the door you walk into. The Harrah's in Vegas is the same as the Harrah's at Rincon. Payouts are around the same at any casino you go to. That being said...Vegas is still Vegas! There's nothing else like it in the world. Vegas is the gambling capital of the world.

The fact is, that because other states got gambling, makes people even want to go to Vegas even more, because they know that there is only ONE Vegas, and that's where it all started. After all, how many Bugsy Siegels are out there? He started it all, even though it was a bust at first, and that's where the people want to play and stay! Anyone can say that their hometown casino is like Vegas, but is it really? NOT!
If I do decide to go back to Vegas, it will be because of the "vacation mentality" in Vegas. The Minnesota casinos can be boring. Like going to Vegas for the free drinks, buffets, and 9/6 JoB and 10/7 DB!

I agree with Bag's.

Not really. Payouts at most non-Indian casinos outside of Nevada are usually dramatically less than those in NV, from what I've experienced. You can tell the payouts on VP, but not on slots, and from casinos I've worked at in the midwest and other places, holds on penny slot machines run around 20% (due to high gross revenue taxes and entrance taxes, which the customer never sees), versus 10-12% in Nevada. Plus, in a number of states, your drinks can't be comped, which for most people, should be figured into the actual trip cost.

I don't have any firsthand experience with Indian casinos though, just secondhand from people that have worked for them, and I've heard their payouts are also relatively low.

There is no place in the world like Las Vegas...
Just my thoughts but i'm an outsider - ie UK.

I fly out every year - twice last year. Once your flying long-haul you get a lot of choice of destinations for the money.

But Vegas is Vegas - I aint been anywhere that has the same vibe or keeps the party going like Vegas does. I think its the fact that nearly everyone you bump into is there for a the same thing and thats to have a good time. Yup I like the people, the casinos, the bars, the clubs, the pools, the service, the hotels. Its all good everytime.

I dont even bother with casinos that much at home because that fun vibe just isnt there.

Booked up for September - Cant wait.

Only Vegas has Frankie Rizzo, Lady Friend and Roscoe.
Just had to put in my 2 cents worth. We come from Maine, so it's a long trip...Foxwoods and Mohegan are closer, but Vegas is an experience. There is an aura about Vegas that can't be matched anywhere else. It's more than the casinos, it's the feeling that washes over us as soon as we spot the pyramid or the Eiffel Tower from our airplane window, the awe of watching the fountains at Bellagio or watching the lights come on in the evening. It's an ambiance that you just don't see anywhere else. Vegas is what you want it to be, regardless of who they're catering to at the moment. Keep me on the Vegas lover's list. I'll be back. k
