Why I don't rent a car in Vegas

Bad drivers...It's all relative to what you're used to. I don't mind driving in Vegas/Nevada. It's more enjoyable than driving in NJ.
I'm supposedly covered by insurance and my AMEX card, but I always take the insurance. First of all, my insurance would probably charge the deductible. Secondly, I don't quite trust AMEX to pay for an expensive wreck.

Last, I've rented cars where the daylight was poor to non-existant. I walked around the car and noted various dings and scratches only to find many more the next morning. I was worried that I was going to be accused of making them, but I never was. Their insurance will cover it.

Gotta have the rental car. The best best places to play are off strip.

Has anyone tried UBER?
I just signed up. Cab drivers HATE them.
The company is worth 40M?

Man alive. Anyone who flys into LV and who has a driver's license should be renting a car every time. How the hell else can you get around that city, in smelly cabs driven by foreigners or taking busses with all the city's scum?

Doesn't everyone with a major credit card already know what protections they afford in the case of an accident or other type of claim while renting? Jeez. And the only people who buy any of that insurance liability crap from the rental places are timid, inexperienced, worry-wart saps.

Going to LV is supposed to be an enjoyment, not an exercise in what-its and struggling. Anyone who doesn't rent is just probably too cheap to tip the valets for parking their cars anyway, while at the same time they have no problem blowing their wages on the slot machines.

Or maybe they're just old fat indolent cynical condescending a-holes that are too lazy to walk.

I thought I'd throw in my conjecture/theory for review also.
I have to agree with albeadle33 on this one. While his abrasive manner may grate, the content I find to be true. So sue me if you don't agree, for I will continue to rent a car whenever I visit Vegas.
Watch out for this guy:

The cabbies are too strong in Nevada for Uber.

• November 17, 2014 Uber Back in Court: The controversial ride-share service returned to Clark County District Court this morning, where a judge is currently hearing arguments for a preliminary injunction sought by the Nevada Transportation Authority. We'll keep you posted.

• November 17, 2014 Uber Saga Drags On: This morning's scheduled District Court hearing was quickly abandoned, with Court Judge Douglas Herndon expressing irritation at the Nevada Attorney General's office for failing to make up its mind if it wants the case heard here or in Reno and commenting that the state has yet to show that the ride-share company is causing irreparable harm. The Nevada Transportation Authority withdrew its move for a temporary injunction against Uber but the Taxicab Authority says it will continue to issue citations and impound the cars of participating Uber drivers in Nevada.

• November 26, 2014 Uber Blocked Again, Still...: There's been some resolution in the ongoing saga regarding the legality of ride-share app company Uber's Nevada operations and the ruling did not go Uber's way, with a District Court judge in Washoe County approving a preliminary injunction, blocking the company from operating in this state, citing public safety issues. Whether this really spells the end of the road for Uber in Nevada, time will tell, but we suspect this is not the last we'll be hearing of it.

• November 29, 2014 Uber and Out: The controversial ride-sharing company has ended its efforts to operate in Nevada, at least temporarily. Facing legal and competition-based opposition on multiple fronts, the company disabled its operating app, saying it would return when it finds a more accommodating legal path.
Al Bundy, lots of folks drink alcohol while in Las Vegas. I find it inadvisable to drive around Las Vegas with a blood alcohol content above 0.08%. For that reason, I chose to move around via taxi.
