Why we gamble........

I am coming up with scenarios to get people to talk a little...what can I say?
I am currently in Iraq and I dream of my rest and relaxation that will be in July, and I cannot wait...but until then...I have you guys.

I sat at a bar once, and the bartender actually asked me "why do you throw all of your money away on gambling? Wouldn't you rather spend it on something else?"
I guess I was shocked that a person of industry would actually tell that to a customer.
I know it is not everyone's cup of tea, but has anyone ever given you the "speech" about your leisure gambling????
I wouldn't tell anyone else not to gamble and would hope they'd not lecture me, either. Like most other things, moderation is the key. In one trip, four nights, I can pretty much get the urge out of my system. But I also like getting to as many properties as possible, Strip, downtown or others. You never know when you might find yourself in the right place at the right time, and hit the jackpot. It's a feeling you never forget.

my husband....every time I go to local casino's for a day....

Even after hitting 2 handpays in the past two weeks.....he still nags me horribly when I take usually only my once a month jaunt up to local casinos (only went twice, due to my birthday...I do what I want to do)

its no wonder he never wins....too negative about loosing money....never looks at the entertaining fun part that happens

ironic thing....he plays Power Ball TWICE a week, EVERY week, $10-$20 a pop...and this is not gambling??

He plays Keno once a week after golf league...will drop $100 or two....and this is not gambling??

78 days till Vegas trip in July....can't wait
My customers who do not gamble and know my gambling habits have made comments in the past. They think i throw my money away.
I do not go to bars nightly or live high on the hog. I have a secure job(family owned) and live in a house that has been in my family for 70 years. I do spend most of my "extra" money gambling and most likely will not die with any in the bank, but I enjoy the release it gives me from life. I can't get that feeling sitting in a bar every night, but I can drink my own in a casino.

I don't gamble.

At home I'll go out to the pub and have a few drinks and pay my tab.

In Vegas I'll go out to the casino and have a few drinks, while playing some cards, and my "tab" averages out to the same as the pub back home where I just get the drinks without the added entertainment. Plus they throw in free meals and a free room. That's not gambling, it's smart shopping.

I'm that way with popcorn I don't eat it.

I probably make 8 to 9 times what I made in my late teens and early 20's. That being said, I would be far more upset at losing big today than back then.

I like the Las Vegas resort experience. Yes, there are other resorts in other parts of the world, but the party type atmosphere just doesn't exist at those places like it does at Las Vegas.

I gamble and its in my nature. My entire professional life has been a gamble. I have never had a 9 to 5 routine job. During much of my career I didnt know what to expect while at work or even during off work hours-- it could have been a robbery or plane crash or flood or fight or riot or meeting the president or the governor. The only certainty was that I was employed at least until my contract ran out.

Later, as a business owner my entire business life was nothing more than a calculated bet -- investing this much time and money should yield XYZ.

I was thrilled my entire working life not knowing what would happen next. Now in my business life I enjoy the gamble of making deals and completing projects.

The casino is just an extension of my life outside the casino.
No Lectures (ANYMORE)...
Work and everyone one my friends knows me.
If it's a day or two gone from work, it's Atlantic City.
If it's a week or 10 days gone; I'm in Las Vegas.
Everyone who knows me know this..
I saw a documentary about gambling on television (a few years ago) that included a segment which examined brain activity while people were gambling. Apparently, gambling stimulates the same parts of the brain that are stimulated by cocaine. That could also explain why some people are addicted to gambling. I know I get a rush when I walk up to a craps table and throw down my cash. Some people also say that the risk of losing is what provides the thrill in gambling, and that's why casino managers don't sweat losses - they know they're going to get it back!
