Why we gamble........

Have to agree with yoyoseven about the personality of gamblers and how brains are wired for various professions. Why are police addicted to their jobs? They dont pay well. But there is a certain thrill they get walking into an unknown. Same with the Navy Seals... Im sure you saw the various TV reports about the men who are Seals. There are also people who dont want a 9-to-5 job and welcome the challenge of being an entrepreneur. Then there are lawyers who take on accident cases on contingency vs the lawyers who work on salary for the insurance companies. Yes, I agree our brains are wired differently. And if we werent wired that way we wouldnt gamble, and inventions wouldnt be created and businesses wouldnt get started and I guess we'd all still be working for the King of England.
I gamble only in Las Vegas because the drinking is fun, and because I love to put on my mirrored sun glasses and walk the strip looking at all of the fine Tits and Asses.
I'm in it for the booze.
My reasoning is simple enough. Some people ask us why we love vegas so much(mainly our family, and some non-gambling freinds) and response is pretty simple and I think very logical. Some like the beach, some like roller coasters, others prefer cruises,etc.,etc. I love vegas and gambling for the thrill of it. Something about walking into a casino and knowing the excitement of winning or losing. The next card coming up and when it hits,HELL YA!,thats what i'm talking about ,or oh sh!t,thats not good. The excitement level can range from euphoric to absolute "this sucks, lets go grab a bite to eat, chill out for a bit". Then the excitement builds again, go back at it and see what happens.

Me/us? We love roller coaster vacations. Vegas and gambling are about the same. Thrillseekers? Yea,I suppose.

I know one thing for sure, when i get asked about going to vegas(especially from those that kinda look down there nose about it), answer is simple and funny in my own smartass kinda way. "At least in vegas,I've come back with about the same money I took with me or close to it". Disney and all other places we've been to have always cost a boatload of bucks.

Where else in the world where can you lose ALL track of time and have your wife have you paged in the casino(maxim) at 6AM,supposed to go pick up rental car at IP,and drive to grand canyon. Needless to say I didn't have much sympathy but I didn't have to drive to GC,instead did hoover dam/lake mead tour instead. OMG,one of top 5 hangovers ever.

Thats my reasoning and sticking to it

Not speaking for anyone but myself, Gambling for me is a sickness. I just recently returned to the casinos( thanks in part to being banned from the internet poker club site) and have been sticking to poker cash games to mitigate my losses. three forays in three weeks. one up session and two down. breaking even.

In the past I have spent the entire night in casinos and went to work without any sleep, or called in taking a days vacation to continue gambling. I'm thinking about gambling when I'm not in a casino. I've cashed in a life insurance policy for gambling funds. I've gone on full tilt and have lost thousands in one evening on more than one occasion. The winning streaks for me are endorphine driven highs. The losses are mental anguish.
If the question is coming from a rational person, you might want to discuss it. If it's coming from someone that never visits AC, LV, Reno etc., it's probably not areasonable question. I have a friend that went to LV once his wife to meet her relatives. He literally gambled just one quarter! That's it, he's done.

I think it's all relative. As long as your gambling expendatures fall into the catagory of entertainment spending, your fine. Of course there's always the friend that has no problem taking a $5k 7 day cruise that would call you crazy for going to LV for a week spendin $1k on RFB and then criticise you for dropping and grand on gambling! You spent a $3,000 less on your vacation, but you're the fool!

Luckily, gambling is down the list for me on my LV trips. I was questioned about my gaming habits once though. I was enjoying an adult beverage with my good friends on their patio when Sue made a staement. She told me I had a gambling problem! My response was, "What?", as in what the hell are you talking about? She responded that I'd been in town for a day and a half already and hadn't gambled a dime. "You have a real problem. You have a problem finding time to gamble!" As usual, Sue was right. And I hope it stays that way.

Good Luck!

Gee, life itself is a gamble.

Getting married, having children, buying a house, going out on a date, crossing the street,
buying stocks, bonds, dinner at a restaurant,
taking medicine, boxing, chewing gum and walking, etc, etc, etc.

The above are all a type of gambling.

Putting money into a machine or table is just another form of it.

It's unhealthy if you indulge in anything too much.

So don't be like me.
Where else can you stay in a 4 star hotel, eat at the best restaurants, see some of the best shows in the world, never lack for something to do, AND come home with $1000 more than when you left??? THAT's what makes a lot of us return, even after a losing trip. Yeah, I may have a losing trip, or two, in a year but the fun, and the other winning trips, more than make up for it. Plus, it's the closest major city to me and I can only take so much peace and quiet in beautiful New Harmony Utah! (I don't count St.George as a "major city.")
We gamble everyday, it's a crap shoot if it's our time to drop dead. We have many ways to help or hinder our daily gamble.

I go to Vegas to plunk down money in slots to rid myself of stress.
Ladies in very skimpy outfits get me drinks so I spend more money.
The casino gives me free stuff so I can spend more money.
Spending money helps me get rid of stress.
Although trips to the brothels would do the same thing with the added benefits of having sex.
