Will the lights go out in Appalachia this time?

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country."

This is radical Tea Party stuff, isn't it?

Mainstream Republicans: It's not our fault, it's the Democrats, we are not to blame.

Extreme right wing Republicans (tea party): We don't take blame for the shutdown, we take credit for the shutdown. It is what we said we wanted, we got exactly what we wanted. The shutdown is a great victory for the Republican party.

From wiki: "A Gallup poll conducted during the first week of the shutdown found that the percentage of Americans with a favorable opinion of the Republican Party had fallen to the lowest level for either party since Gallup began measuring party favorability in 1992, with only 28% of Americans saying they now had a favorable opinion of the Republican Party, down 10 points from September, before the shutdown. The Democratic Party had a 43% favorable rating"

If the Republicans learned nothing from the last shutdown, maybe the next one will serve as a friendly reminder. The American people do not share tea party values.

Good news! Speaker Boehner is resigning under pressure from the far right. They're upset because He hasn't been disfunctional enough. He only shut down the government twice. His last act will likely be funding the federal government in a compromise with the godless, baby killers on the left. Likely the lights will stay on and Planned Parenthood will continue to sell baby parts to the Golden Corral Steakhouse...er something.

Time will tell if the new speaker is more interested in governing or crying. He'll have some big shoes to fill if its the latter - and My money says thats the path he will choose.

Congress has neither the power nor the authority to shut down the government. The president, and only the president, has that power. Øbama shut it down the last time, and it was planned well in advance. The signs that were hung at national monuments the next day weren't made over night, and they weren't made by, or ordered by congress.

Again why defund the government (that is not spending money on abortions) when you have a guy, Dr. Ben Carson, that participated in fetal research? Shouldn’t the Republicans stop funding that guy first?

Planned Parenthood is the government?

Interesting tidbit for those who think fed spending is the answer to everything.

According to the GAO in 2014 overpayments increased by over 20% to over $124b. Total overpayments since 2003 is over $1t.

This $1t does not include waste in other areas such as having over a dozen job training programs, excess staffing & boondoggle projects to name a few.

The GAO sites IRS returns fraudulently claiming the earned income tax credit as one of the biggest offenders.... I wonder if that's because there are fewer IRS auditors due to the massive sequester budget cuts? I guess the Hoops-endorsed strategy of using the honor system for filing taxes isn't working out to well.

"I guess the Hoops-endorsed strategy of using the honor system for filing taxes isn't working out to well"

Once again pj invents what I have said. Many here, including myself have endorsed a simpler code with fewer deductions and credits.

Strange, why did the Republican's pick up so many seats in the last election IF they are so bad?????????

51 forgot to post Ben Carsons ratings. He is up over 70% approval. (almost twice as much as Hilliary)
70% approval for Ben Carson?? Maybe in some southern state, but among US electorate, not a chance.
Racist Boiler would be quite happy voting for Ben.
