Will Wynn's ShowStoppers succeed ?

Steve Wynn's ShowStoppers, a Broadway-themed revue that will feature a cast of 34 singers and dancers, backed by an on-stage 30-piece orchestra, will debut at the Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas Dec. 16.

Phil McKinley (Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark) will direct the 90-minute production, which will feature choreography by three-time Emmy Award winner Marguerite Derricks, costume designs by Suzy Benzinger, musical direction by Emmy winner David Loeb and hair and makeup design by Luc Verschueren.

"From staple grand opening chorus numbers to intimate duets," press notes state, "ShowStoppers pays homage to the many lasting anthems of American musical theater. The production includes a hand-picked selection of Steve Wynn’s favorite numbers from the best of Broadway that makes audiences literally stand up and cheer – true show stoppers."

I'd say ay $90.00 per TIX and songs all the popular broadway songs - it will be a success. He is marketing the 40 plus age group, good Idea.

Also bringing old Vegas back...no more cirque stuff.
DonDiego'd pay to see "Showstoppers" !

There's a pretty good writeup about the production in the Las Vegas Sun.
[Steve Wynn looks awfully old, . . . but apparently in love with his new bride, as pictured in the article.]
Yeah, he spent $5 milliion on her 50th birthday party !!!. That is where he got the idea for this show.

I am glad he did not entertain the spiderman show.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. However, at 90 minutes it will have to start good and get great. The longer a show is the better it has to be to keep the audience. This is the problem I have had with a couple of the Cirque shows, too long for what they deliver.

I'm a sucker for show tunes but I'm not optimistic on this show's future. As the different generations mature the city's entertainment venues have to evolve in line with them. The Rat Pack era is largely gone....as is the Hammerstein era. The population in Vegas now is dominated by people who grew up with the Rolling Stones and later Van Halen. And thats more in line with what they want to see. I'm mostly cool with it but its sad to see some of the traditional Vegas acts fade into time.

Steve probably doesn't care. People will see his show...and he'll like it....and if it isn't a big success then who cares? Its not like he's going to go bankrupt.
