Win 10

I was curious to see if anyone here has updated to it yet? I'm still having a huge hatefest with 8.1.
Anyone's who upgraded I'd like to know what they think of it and if it's much better than 8.1. I can't imagine it not being any better.
Actually I went and scheduled it, it'll install on the 29th. Anything, ANYTHING's gotta be better than 8.1
Good question.I was wondering about it myself.Being an old timer, change isn't always easy.
I have signed up for the update too. The only thing definitive that can be said about Windows 10 is that it has to be better than Windows 8 or 8.1. Everyone including Microsoft has acknowledged it has been a colossal failure. Windows 10 is supposed to bring back some of things we liked about earlier versions of windows. It should be easier to use for those of us who prefer a keyboard and a mouse as opposed to touch gestures. The explanation I heard is that was that Microsoft thought Ipads and tablets were the wave of the future when they launched Windows 8 and that is why it was such a radical departure from earlier versions of windows. The assumed everyone was migrating to touch input. The way things turned out is that tablet sales have plummeted. Primarily because smart phones got bigger and fully functional laptops got smaller. Not many people feel the need to buy a tablet because of this. So Microsoft got caught with its pants down.

The only people it may upset is those that have been using windows 8 for a long time now and have gotten used to its quirks.

I'm also in line to upgrade.
One is running 8.1, the other is Win 7 Pro.

I am in the process of updating my Win 7 laptop. That should take hours and hours, cuz it's been put away since November. Just discovered the battery is dead, so have not even begun that, yet.

Update:
It's now 2+ hours spent updating my Win 7 Dell laptop to prepare it for the Win 10 changeover. So far, over 160 updates, and don't know what is going to be "behind" those, once done. I anticipate a couple more hours before the Dell will be Win 10 ready, than that download which may be a four hour process, so I'm led to believe.

I tried Win 10 and unwound the install back to 8.1 a short time later. It appeared to be easier to use, but also seemed to have a slower start-up. The deal killer for me is that I like to use a two-finger swipe on the touchpad to scroll on my Asus laptop, and Win 10 killed that. I looked for help online, but no one had complained about it or solved it yet. I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the driver, and no luck. So I went back to 8.1, which was very easy.

There are possible soluitions online about the problem now, but I'll probably wait until Asus issues a fix. So much for being on the bleeding edge.
Be careful.Heard on the news last night about someone sending phoney emails trying to get you to download this new browser. They are not from Microsoft.
As someone who wrote system code & also worked as a system engineer for a gigantic cerulean company,
I would tell my customers to wait 6 months before installing a release of a new operating system.

Let someone else work out the bugs.

Some reading material.

The new Blue Screen of Death in Windows 10
Since the only things I do with my computer is email, internet and music, any and all of the past OS have been fine to me. I figure out the basic functions that I need and I'm good. So for me, Win 10 is just as good as 8.1.
Still using WIndows 7 on a behemoth Desktop PC. I only use it to access the internet and play games (which I think holds true for more than half of home PC users.)
Just give me a basic OS that lets me do those two things with fast startup speed. Thats really all I'm looking for in my home PC.

Dont think I will go to Windows 10 until 7 is no longer supported...or I hear something more noteworthy about Windows 10.
