Wish me luck

DonDiego hopes for the best for jatki99 ! ! !
John, good luck on the surgery and please don't go back for a few years, I think the nurses deserve a break for caring for you. lol

Oh, I stopped smoking on 3 November 2010.

Just saw this thread and wish I would have seen it earlier so you could receive my good vibe mojo before surgery. BUT, since I'm late, let me wish you a speedy recovery as I'm sure you made it thru surgery just fine.It takes a really strong spirit to make it through a year of hospitalization (I'm a nurse, I know.)Keep that spirit strong, I'm glad you have great love to help you along!
I know this post will be post surgery, but good luck.Keep your chin up,everything will be just fine.Think positive Vegas thoughts.

Speedy recovery, I too saw this late.

When Marlene was recovering from her surgery for a few weeks we got a DVD series that neither of us had ever seen or heard of really and we watched 4 seasons in a few days on the laptop while she was in the hospital. No commercials, no waiting for a week in between to see what happens etc. Then we could finish them at home.

We did Grey's Anatomy I thought that was weird, but Marlene is a nurse so she was OK with it, She had never watched it and since I was living in Europe I never saw any of it either.

Other manly type series I recommend are OZ, Prison Break, The West Wing, Deadwood. It grabs you and makes the time fly right by.

Just a suggestion if you get bored with cable since Oprah is not on anymore...

We play Nurse Follies Slots in Vegas as a tribute to the nursing profession, soon you will be back there and you got to put a fiver in that machine!

Hang on there mate!

V

I wish you a speedy and full recovery.
Finally got home wed. night, actually was surprised they let me go. I was very apprehensive about leaving as well as the drs, but my wife was pretty adamant(got this distaste for hospitals now hehe),but turned out to be the right thing to do as i'm healing a little quicker here.

Of course with me what should've been a 2 night(or so) stay turned out to be 6,UGH!!! First was my dialisys access clotted not once but twice!,and first time was on sat. so vascular team not in til monday.

The second problem that arose was i got constipated and i mean super backed up (sorry, prob TMI ,but it;s a HUGE health issue while in the hospital). The dr showed me an X-ray of my torso and my entire GI tract was one big black cloud, pretty scary.

Anyway the surgery went pretty well and they removed my left kidney without any problems. I asked if i could keep it but wasdenied on that issue as they had to send it off to the pathologists anyway. The doc was kind enough to take a picture of it right before he took it out which i thought was pretty cool. Heres a couple of the pic. Note;its a perfectly healthy looking kidney except that it comes to pass that there is a tiny 3.4cm tumor growing in the middle of it (was entirely encapsulated so never went anywhere else which is best possible news,YEA!).
BEWARE if squeamsh! MY EX-LEFT KIDNEY!

One positive note was there was a dr there who came in to see me who once worked at WHC in the transplant dept and he said he wouldn't be surprised at all if my other kidney kicked in and stared working again, Given how i lost the use of it. That encouraged me as i was feeling pretty low and in a LOT of pain at that time.

Thanks again for all the well wishes everyone!

JOHN
It's good to hear from you and glad to know that you are home. I've been wondering how you were, but I didn't want to pry. Hope you feel better and stronger with each passing day.
Part of your post got cut off, but I'm taking your other kidney is working ok now?
Welcome back John! Glad to see you are doing okay. Got to get well now for your Vegas trip!
