Would You Still Visit Vegas If The Drinks Weren’t Free?

I must go on record here. Despite my previous snarky comment for which I apologize, I must acknowledge and appreciate drmilled's persistence, his crusade against corporate greed.

I'm not kidding, my mother would have loved you, drmilled. She understood corporate greed better than the majority of housewives of her era. She vehemently opposed organized crime, applauded Estes Kefauver and his band of anti-syndicate drum beaters, and of course Bobby Kennedy (who's platform I'll always believe got JFK killed). Mom is probably twirling in her grave knowing at least one of her children (me) engages in casino gambling.

I know a little about corporate greed (my favorite TV show is "American Greed, though that program illustrates fraud against individuals rather than the corporate kind). However, I feel powerless to do much about it. And ever since I discovered casino gambling, I'm pretty much a willing victim and guilty of lining casino coporate pockets, though by palty amounts in the big picture. I do try to patronize places that keep their properties polished and put out some goodies for their loyal players.

You keep up the crusade, drmilled. I'm doing OK with my methods. But my mom salutes you from the grave, that's for certain.

"...applauded Estes Kefauver and his band of anti-syndicate drum beaters".. This was really a person? Huh.
Well I' just learnt something new and now know more about someone I never heard of. All along I just thought he was a dick-licking, richthuglican,AM radio listening, piece of human excrement who occasionally posted on the LVA FFA.

I look at my gambling money as entertainment budget, if I compare it to what I would drop at Disney(those days are passed fortunately) or like minded vacation, well vacations cost money and I always take a pocketful of money to pay for it. Fifteen bucks for the Mickey Mouse ears?, sure. Another fifteen to get Andrews name stitched on, of course. Don't like it, but it's vacation and things cost. HOWEVER, gouging in a city where I have choices, well, I'm free to choose to spend my money somewhere else if I want.
After that wordy reply, I guess I'm saying I agree with ya Candy .

Got lost with all the banter above, but thought of a good question.

I am not much of a drinker, so what are people's favorite "free" drinks and from where. I'd also like to find a good well drink. The bad cranberry juice has me unable to stomach cranberry vodkas much this days. Not really a fan of tonic either. Nor rum and cokes. Any other ideas when happy hours offer "well drinks".

Suggestions for martinis as well. I do like a strong martini, but don't do olives, so that limits "dirties". I guess.

I was not much of a drinker and drink very seldom. Socially only. Love a good red or sangria though. Best sangria in Vegas??

So I like to try different things for "free". I did have a very good manhattan for the first time at a restaurant bar. Trying to find something relatively on the cheaper end and a standard. As a cocktail drinker, you kind of just get a surprise drink more than not.

Some things I have really liked when made properly is a chambord margarita. Very silly, but a good Alabama Slammer is very sweet and fruity, but a good one (very hard to get) is strong and good. I am not a drinker, so like one or two very strong drinks. Both these are very sweet, trying to find less sweet drinks.

As for the best drinks and waitresses in Vegas....hard rock and cosmo seem to have decent service and drinks, imo. Palms is decent. Trop has waitresses, drinks limited. Wynn brought my hubby very good iced coffee when asked.

worst, probably stations for reliability of waitresses, but casino royale for only house drinks, cheap beer.
'
Drmilled, it just seems odd that you demand that others should not be greedy when selling to you, yet greed is acceptable when Drmilled is on the selling side.

The availability and price of alcoholic beverages has had and is likely to continue to have absolutely no effect on poor old DonDiego's choice of vacation destinations.

DonDiego rarely imbibes at the tables, . . . with one notable exception:
The most pleasant drinking experience DonDiego has had in "The City of Schools and Churches" was early one morning at the Excaliber where DonDiego was extracting money from the blackjack tables when an attractive cocktail waitress asked him if he wanted a drink. He responded he'd like some coffee. She inquired if he'd like some Bailey's in it. DonDiego hand't thought of that before and quickly answered "yes".
That nubile young scamp introduced DonDiego to one of the world's finest creations: Bailey's Irish Cream in coffee.

DonDiego visits Las Vegas very rarely nowadays. When he lived in Prescott, AZ it was a 250-mile drive. Now it's 'round 2000 miles away. So unless teecher and he are going to the West Coast to visit family or vacation and catch a football game he rarely visits Las Vegas. Oh, and the "good" blackjack games in town persist in dwindling, so even the gambling is less attractive.

On a happy note, . . . if DonDiego still lived in Arizona he'd've undoubtedly placed some season-long wagers on his beloved Philadelphia Eagles. The distance/inconvenience may well have saved him significant losses this year, . . . again.

But if milled could increase the price of the car by giving away some free drinks, I think he would. It is called marketing.

The question is can the casinos take in the same amount of revenue by discontinuing free drinks?

I'm always happy to provide tidbits from the old days for you youngsters, John

And as for the alien Estes K,".....who occasionally posted on the LVA FFA", I have wondered why any human would assume that identity, Nazi outfit and all? Ah, each to his own.

I think the REAL Estes Kefauver fillibustered himself into oblivian and his (self-serving) crusade tanked, or maybe he got a letter from a mob boss, or who knows what. No monuments are chiseled in his honor in DC, as far as I know.
I don't do shots, but I tried one recently that I liked. It is called a mini Guinness and consists of Patron XO (Coffee flavored) tequila and Baily's -- mmmmm

Another Fall drink to try is Fireball Cinnamon Whiskey and Apple Cider --- serve it warm or cold!

Ahhhh, . . . Fireball. It is like alcoholic candy for adults, . . . or, if one is so inclined, an excellent means by which to introduce children to alcoholism.

I probably will not go, this is why I avoid those Indian Casinos in California, because they charge you alcohol drinks.
