I played in the main event in 2003. I won a sattlelite tourney at Mohrgan Sun in CT, in the old poker room. It was still at Binions, and they had around 675 players in the tourney. They never expected that many, and they were scrambling to find tables, bringing them in from other casinos and fitting them where ever they could. Although I got knocked out by Humberto Breness late on the first day ( I had pocket J's, he had pocket Q's) it was an awesome experience.
