We are talking about folks that have Masters and PHD degrees, who haven't been without a job since after they got out of college.
Educated people are very employable in this economy.

It's uneducated persons who this economy is failing.

What you write about people with Masters and PhDs is false.

Do you have almost 9% unemployment in your state? Have you met any people with a Masters or a PHD that are unemployed?

So just because you have a chart says people with degrees are NOT unemployed???????? Just where in hell do you live? Are you aware just how many jobs we have lost in the midwest?
Here's something a bit more recent divided up by states:

You're kidding, right?

You do know that CNC folks and tool and die people make real good money? Neither one requires a college degree, just experience.
I cited Bureau of Labor Statistics data.

I'm not interested in anecdotes, yours or mine.

You didn't even cite the latest info. Of course you would only believe something if it ran over you.

I've been to several job fares where folks that have advanced degrees(masters/PHD's) are looking for work, but of course since you didn't witness this it doesn't exist.
I know many people with advanced degrees who are out of work.

If you are over 40 you have a big problem, over 50 you may never work again, over 60 forget it

Tony,

The Bureau of Labor Statistics published the chart I posted. They published it on May 4, 2011. If that's not current enough for you, I don't know what to say.

The chart doesn't claim there isn't a single person with a PhD or a Master's Degree that is unemployed. Rather, it shows that the unemployment rate for such people is far less than that for less educated people. The people who are hurting in this economy are by-and-large poorly educated. It's simply a fact. Assign whatever value you want to that fact, but don't pretend it's not true. It is true.

Everything else is just your usual ignorant rage and frustration, blasted here without any actual understanding of what's going on.
The country is doing great, all is quite well on the home front, nothing to see here, now move along.
While it is true that the older worker is less likely to be laid off, once you lose your job it is more difficult to be rehired & if you get a job you are likely taking a huge pay cut You rarely see a job posting looking for someone with 20 years experience; the norm is 10 years.

See below from the labor dept

What the numbers say is that workers between the ages of 55 and 64 were on unemployment rolls an average of 44.6 weeks as of October, according to Assistant Secretary of Labor William E. Spriggs, who spoke before a special session of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. It was called late last year to examine the impact of the economic recession on older workers. According to Spriggs, older workers remained unemployed an average of almost 11 weeks longer than workers age 25 to 34 years, and 17 weeks longer than those 20 to 24

Sorry, it also depends upon your state. If you bothered to look at the link I posted, it showed different rates for different states. You can pull out a national chart all you want, but in some states those figures are off as their unemployment rates are higher.

Hoops, I know. It's a nightmare out there as I haven't seen it this bad since Jimmy was in office.

I'll tell you what, when you don't have a job please talk to me what it's like, ok.
