Yet Another Reason to Oppose Wal-Mart

Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. is planning on opening up to four stores within the District of Columbia. Some residents object.

F'rinstance, "Ms. Terriea Sutton says 'There'll probably be a lot of shoplifting going on. They'll need a lot of security.'"

And Ms. Brenda Speaks an Advisory Neighborhood Commisioner in the Fourth Ward "actually urged blocking construction of the planned store in her ward at Georgia and Missouri avenues NW partly because of that risk. Addressing a small, anti-Wal-Mart rally at City Hall on Monday, Speaks said young people would get criminal records when they couldn't resist the temptation to steal."

Ref: The Washington Post

Hmmmm, . . . someone should not place a store in one's neighborhood because one's neighbors will steal from it. What a unique argument.
I believe they used a similar argument when they wanted to build the White House there.

I thought Don Diego was of the belief that only union’s organized to oppose Wal-Mart.

This is not so; malibber is mis-informed.

DonDiego did post not very long ago that an organization called "Wall-Mart Free DC" was involved with the SEIU; he provided ample evidence that that was so. If malibber were to listen to the Wal-Mart Free DC theme song at their web-site, he would now hear several references to Wal-Mart blocking unionization. These lyrics have been added since DonDiego last linked to the web-site. Apparently the union involvement persists.

DonDiego has no knowledge of any relationship between Ms. Sutton, Ms. Speaks, and any union. He does not assume there is one; he does not assume there isn't one; he does not know.

Oh, . . . and DonDiego doesn't even know if Ms. Sutton and Ms. Speaks are "organized" at all, although malibber implies that they are. malibber knows more than poor, old DonDiego about the matter.

I am sorry the original thread isn’t there anymore. I thought your evidence in that thread consisted of at least in part the argument that it would be unheard of people organizing to oppose Wal-Mart on their own thus the anti-Wal-Mart group must be involved with unions.

malibber is mistaken, . . . again.
DonDiego's recollection is similar to malibber's, however; but it was not DonDiego who made that argument.

I see then I am sorry I sullied Don Diego’s good name over this matter. malibber is finding his recollection fading with age.

I love Wal-Mart! Now the pigs at Krogers can't charge $8 for a 24 pack of Coke Zero. I can just go to Wal-Mart and get it for $5. Wal-Mart keeps the compitition fair in my city and has not put anyone out of business here.

That is interesting around my area Wal-Mart is about as expensive as it gets for Coke and Pepsi products. I did buy a case of diet Pepsi there today it was on sale for $5.99.

I find the fresh meat section at Walmart outrageous.
