I got my first royal of 2010 Sunday at Harrahs Rincon. I would like to tell everyone that I hit the $5 DDB progressive, which was in excess of $64,000... but I didn't.
I wasn't planning on going to Rincon on Sunday, but when I called and found out the progressive was so high, I scrapped my plans to play in a poker tournament in LA, and darted down to Rincon. but I could not get a seat at the five machines linked to the progressive. Yes, the team from Reno was there, and they had been there all weekend, pumping up the jackpot and trying to hit. they hogged four of the machines, with members taking shifts playing.
this was the first time I got to see them "in action" and frankly Im a bit angry. When two of the players were low on cash, they played very, very slowly, keeping others (like me) from getting a seat.
Well, justice prevailed and a non team member got the royal late Sunday night.
So I spent my Sunday (about 11 hours) playing the $1 DDB progressive which was at about $4500 and playing 25-cent super times pay for ten hands at a time.
No, I didnt hit the $1 progressive either, but I did OK, getting quad aces once (no kicker) and quad 2s twice within five minutes, and a few other quads (hit quad nines at least three times. Early Sunday evening I hit quads 2s with a kicker for $800, and thats when I found myself up about 2-grand. So I decided to try out some of the super times pay machines right behind the DDB progressive where everyone seemed to be hitting.
I started with $100 playing 25-cent, ten handed BONUS poker. There was no DDB available on the machine I was on. Sixty coins for max bet for ten hands.
I started out very strong and quickly grew my $100 initial buy in to about $400... but then started losing till I had about $200 in the machine. Thats when I got a super times pay for 3x and was dealt three to the royal. I got the royal on the sixth line -- so its good that I was playing ten lines. that paid 3,000 plus some other small wins for a total payoff of $3,041 for all ten hands.
Sorry, no picture.
Shortly after I hit that, I went over to the high limit room where the winner of the $64K progressive was waiting for his check. He was dealt three to the royal and was quite calm about the whole thing.
On the other hand when I hit the progressive twice last year for smaller amounts -- 36K and 37K -- I was screaming like a little girl.
Oh, and when he hit the royal, the five DDB progressive machines emptied out. The team left. by the way, a couple of months ago the team also missed out on a 50K royal which was hit by a regular player.
