The short answer is "yes," although that depends on the type of coupon. Free play coupons--yes, you'll definitely have to redeem them via the player's club and they'll record that you've used them, so you can't come back with a duplicate later. Match play coupons--sometimes you can just use them at the table, and you don't need a player's card, but others, you have to trade the coupon at the player's club for a matchplay coupon you can actually use--and that will be recorded. Buffet twofers--they do usually require you to have a player's card to use them. Other stuff---it might depend on the value of the coupon, and whether the particular entity taking the coupon is equipped to scan or evaluate any card you present (for instance, the 2-1 Coney Dog at the D--they won't care).
Bottom line, you're in the casino anyway, and if you don't already have a player's card there, get one--aside from the coupon, there is often some kind of sign-up bonus. It's never a bad idea, and you might be surprised at what offers you get in the mail later, even if you play very little or not at all.
I might add that even if you already have a players card, check the expiry date, 'cause some offers (tho maybe the coupons aren't considered offers) are contingent on a current players card. Expired cards will work in machines etc., but current date required to take advantage of offers. I used to carry two or three cards same casino, left over from previous trips, just for my convenience. Once I handed one over that was out of date, no go for the 2 fer or whatever it was. Had to dig in my purse for the one with a current date. Luckily I had the new one with me or I'd have had to go to players club [as in get out of line and start over] for a new one.
Now I cut up all cards not in current use---I had a drawer full. But I digress! Good luck, Wanda.
Thank you all for your answers.
