I Moved to Las Vegas

I've lived in many places around the United States and moved to Las Vegas.  Thank goodness I did.  So many positives.  I think it is the best city in the United States to live.  i didn't realize it was much more than a gambling/party town.  Boy, was I wrong! I recently watched The many sides of Las Vegas on Youtube and it was excellent showing many things that were available here. Any more suggestions will be appreciated.  Looking for a enjoyable life here in Vegas.  I found this site and looking forward to exploring all the features.

Hi, blueebee1. You didn't get any response here probably because this ain't a locals joint. But as a local on this site, I've got a couple of suggestions you're less likely to hear elsewhere.

I suggest you sign up for a seat-filler program, which is available only to folks with Nevada ID. I like Fillaseat which costs $120 per year, or $100 for seniors - for up to two tickets at a time. Most any night of the week you'll get totally free tickets to comedy, no-name musical, or magic acts, and if you time it right you can score tickets to some geezer rock shows on Fridays at the Golden Nugget like Badfinger, Grass Roots, Foghat, and rarely I've gotten tickets to some B-listers like James Tayor, Donny Osmond, George Strait, and Alanis Morrissette. For this coming Saturday, I scored tickets to KC and the Sunshine Band.

Check out the Springs Preserve. It's hard to describe - sort of a huge desert museum/arboretum/zoo dedicated to the local environment, and as long as you're living in the Mojave you may as well have some appreciation for it. And if you're planning on trying to grow any vegetation here, they have classes and volunteers that can advise.

As a local and possibly senior (50+) you'll get 10x points at Stations two or three days out of the week. That makes NSU Deuces video poker about a quarter of a percent positive with perfect play. If dollar machines are in your budget, you'll be able to get a free cruise with them also.

Mostly I'd advise you to never become one of those pathetic locals who mutter "I never go to the Strip," or "I never go Downtown." Yeah, it's not affordable to blow lots of money on a weekend like you used to, and those new tourists sure are younger and better looking like we used to be, but don't lose your appreciation for that scene. It's why you came here in the first place. Have fun.

I found several things to do during Covid when shows limited or non

existent. I am a tourist nevertheless. I've gone to Clark County Museum

mob Museum, Red Rock Canyon. Not to dismiss the dam and activities

around lake mead. Then the short trip to Grand Canyon.
Have a great life in Las Vegas

As someone who served long stretches in Vegas in the 90s and 00s, I can only say that I left for good because so many of the things that made it a fantastic place to live have been deliberately, ruthlessly choked off.  is it still a good place to live? Depends on your definition, I guess.

One thing I make sure to tell people, though. Vegas is MUCH hotter than it used to be, and the 100+ degree season is about six weeks longer than it was twenty years ago. By July or August, you'll be horribly sick of the heat, but it won't be close to over. Not by a damn sight.

There are still bargains and deals to be had, but only to the extent that you would find such things in any major city. One pretty drastic change has been how the locals' casinos have savagely turned on the patrons who fattened them up for decades. Durango Station is the disgusting embodiment of that.

So like I tell everyone, visitor or migrant to Vegas, have a great time. Bring lotsa money.

For sure Kevin

Let's not forget to mention the abysmal healthcare in Vegas.   And it's only gotten worse the past few years.

Where do Las Vegas residents go for the finest healthcare? The airport!

To be fair, Sunrise Hospital is supposed to have the finest cardiac care unit in the Southwest, which kind of makes sense, given that they're in Vegas.
