One skill set you need is judging when to take the long way around. For instance, if you were going from Red Rock to Henderson, your natural inclination might be to take Summerlin Parkway to downtown and then south on I-515 or Boulder Highway. You'll actually get there faster, especially during times of congestion, by taking the big loop counterclockwise on the Beltway.

I agree about L.A. I've wondered how many people per year die behind the wheel while sitting on the freeway. Must be in the thousands. Since a large chunk of the new Vegas residents are from southern CA, they probably feel the same way you do--"This is nothing!"

I appreciate the word on Martini. I have driven through that intersection a thousand times since we moved here and we've been meaning to try it but just never have. Your post has convinced us to go next week. Oh, and I am signing up in the Suncoast player's club tomorrow. 

Kevin - I employed your strategy this morning at Arizona Charlie's on Decatur. I put a hundred dollar bill in a JoB machine, had some mild success and quickly ran my balance up to $125. I cashed out, bought some breakfast at their expense and headed for the car. That's the last they will see of me (or at least my players card) for a while. 

Please tell us what happens (mailings, offers). A major element of the beat-the-casinos strategy (or at least, the not-get-killed-by-the-casinos strategy) is sharing intelligence. As I've said, there are wild fluctuations month-to-month in what every given casino offers.

BTW, the $9 ($8?) breakfast at the Sourdough Cafe in ACD is really good. Add $1 to get a biscuit and gravy.

Tempting but I am trying to stay away from most apps due to privacy concerns and data gathering. I don't own a tin foil hat but I do think that most apps are just surveillance-for-profit vehicles posing as useful tools. 

That's a good general strategy. I for one have resisted the "need" to download an app every time I want to do something, including taking a shit (To use this toilet, please download the Crap App). But in any event, you can get the points multiplier st Stations the old-fashioned way, by swiping your players' card at the kiosk.

In addition to buying/reading multiple books about VP strategies, I have visited several websites that offer an opportunity to practice playing without putting actual money on the line. Videopoker.com has a wide selection of game variations and their "pro" membership gives you access to coaching (i.e. instead of holding this card you should have held that one). Good stuff but pricey. I have also tried casinotrainer.org that provides a simple free coaching feature as well. My question is: are there alternatives to these sites (hopefully less expensive than videopoker.com)?

I had the Station Casino MC (since discontinued) so I could take advantage of the 50% off dining if using points.  It was great when they had the buffets.  Last time I was at Sunset Station on senior day, I was told that the promotions were only for locals.  I cashed out my account and threw my players card in the trash.  My last visit to any of their locations.
