What used to be the world's largest Super 8 motel (300 rooms) has been taken over by the Ellis Island owners (the Super 8's contract ran out and wasn't renewed). A long block east of center Strip (at Bally's back door), all rooms and suites provide flat-screen TVs and free wifi. Other amenities include a pool, 24-hour coffee station, guest laundry, free parking for trucks and RVs, and free 24-hour airport shuttle. Ellis Island is famous for the steak special in its coffee shop, on-site microbrewery (that also makes its own root beer), bargain barbecue, and Metro Pizza. The casino is small and smoky, but it's a low-roller haven with continuous promotions.

No thanks!

This is one way to get people to gamble at the casino. For the unlucky folk, it's $5 lost making the average steak with small amount of fixings go from $8 to $13. Gone are the good old days of coming into EI and just asking for the Steak Special because it wasn't on the menu. You also got a large salad or soup unlike the tiny portions you get now.

Anyway, if we go to EI, we will have their BBQ ribs special, we don't think the steak is worth $13+ tax and tip when we could get something else in a better part of town that is just as filling.  Having said that, we won't be returning to EI again.

$18.99 Prime Rib

I finally got to try that $18.99 Prime Rib at the Village Pub this past Thanksgiving day weekend.  And it was no joke.  A medium rare King cut with mash potatoes, that thing was huge, tender, juicy and delicious.  I swear that cut had to be 2.5" to 3" thick and weighed at least 1.5 lbs.  A definite revisit on my next Vegas trip.

$9.99 steak

The steak I received was the worth have ever had.  It was so tough I couldn't cut it.  The rest of the meal was very good, potato and green beans.  The French onion soup was the best

Dining at Ellis Island

Some of the best eats at a local casino.  Really like the Pork Belly Bites while playing VP in the Garden.  Have never had a bad meal at Ellis Island.  That includes the steak dinner.  I just like hanging with the local community.
