Analysis
For those of you who don’t know, "Local Corner" has been a monthly fixture in the Las Vegas Advisor newsletter since June, 2002. We figured that like us, a lot of people like to explore outside of their hotel when they travel, especially when you’ve visited Vegas numerous times and are looking for a new experience.
With Las Vegas’ continuing meteoric growth, more and more interesting neighborhood eateries are popping up all the time and some real gems have joined the ranks of beloved old timers like the Golden Steer (LVA Feb., 2007) and Ruth’s Chris West (Nov., 2003). Some don’t make it, including our first Local Corner, the Polish deli Polonez on E. Sahara, but most have stood the test of time and we highly recommend a foray off the beaten path to sample the ambience at Nora’s Cuisine (Feb. , ’03), a luxurious and refreshing treat from Luv It Frozen Custard (July, ’03), the outstanding beer and whisky selection at Freakin’ Frog (Jan., ’06), late-night tapas at Firefly (Feb., ’04), a tranquil lunch at the Tillerman (Sept., ’07), or authentic dim sum at Chang’s Hong Kong Cuisine (April, ’05).
In the 2008 Pocketbook of Values we bagged coupons for some of your top picks in this poll, including Detroit Motor City Coney Island hot dogs, Hot ‘n’ Juicy Crawfish, and Barbeque Masters. We hope to bag some more discounts for other favorites in the future, so thanks for the feedback.
