Analysis
Thanks to everyone for the fantastic response to this poll, not just in terms of volume but for all the great emails you sent, expanding on why you'd voted for dining or shows, what sights in particular you enjoy (no surprise that the Bellagio conservatory and fountain show ranked high), or what "other" option you like to indulge in while in Las Vegas. Spas, pools, roller coasters, and hiking were all popular and obvious choices, while one of the more surprising ones was working out in the gym!
Here are some of the highlights from all the mail you sent in:
- "I chose Other. I love to take pictures and have quite a history of Las Vegas on film.
- "I love to take time that I usually do not have in daily life to spend in an exercise facility, usually two casual but efficient hours. I always feel so invigorated afterwards. Of course, dining comes a close second."
- "Our vote for sightseeing includes museums and galleries. In addition to the iconic sites like Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Grand Canyon, etc., we enjoy exploring the different hotels and their grounds and attractions (and shops!). Trip after trip, these never seem to get old. A few Other votes would go to sleeping late, room service, and watching Tru TV cold case files from an oversized bubble-bath-filled Jacuzzi."
- "Enjoying a fine-dining experience has become my favorite non-gaming activity. Sitting in Picasso, eating under stunning art, on great food, and with my lovely wife? PRICELESS!!!"
- "The Pinball Hall of Fame museum is so much fun and has become a ‘must do’ while we’re in town. Even my 75-year-old mom asked to go there this summer. She had heard us talk about it and wanted to see it. She had a great time…even saw a couple of machines that were the same or similar to machines she played before going into the movie theatres when she was little! It’s a great way to keep playing games, yet usually just a fraction of the cost of gambling. We like competing against each other and, of course, trying to win free games." [Ed: This was another popular choice. Really MUST go and check it out for ourselves one of these fine days.]
- "Favorite non-gambling activity: sex. My girlfriend and I find the uninhibited attitude of Las Vegas conducive to equally uninhibited sex. Dining is a close second."
- "Being from the Midwest, the main non-gambling reason is weather. Sunshine, warm air and low humidity. In the fall, winter and spring it's the temperature. In summer it's that lack of humidity, and all the time it's the sunshine."
- "Actually ship our bikes (UPS) and bike Red Rock Canyon and vicinity daily. Also enjoy hiking Valley of Fire and Red Rock area."
- "I love watching the rest of the world in Vegas. From the pan-handlers to the cops on bikes - it's a fascinating human race. It's fun to see elderly folks walking from machine to machine. It's equally fun to watch the tattooed and pierced generation do the same thing. On Fremont Street you have entire families out there watching the night shows. Nice to see the kids dancing to the music (with parents not so far behind). I hope they all have as much fun as I do."
- "I like going to the pools! You can combine fun, exercise, tanning, & people watching all in one... and I always look and feel better with a tan. Plus, it's a chance to get some real fresh air...unlike most casinos...see ya soon !
