Analysis
The usual thanks to all who took part in this one -- it really gave us some valuable data in terms of your likes and dislikes and where we best allocate our resources right now. While Question of the Day is extremely labor intensive and, hence, expensive, we know how popular it is as a feature and there's nothing else like it anywhere. We will still be opening up the archives, but we got sidetracked by more time-sensitive projects and had to put that on hold for awhile. Bear with us...
We know that Today's News is a really useful resource (and it's fun to write!) and for those of you who haven't yet checked out the LVA blogs, we strongly urge you to do so. Jean "Queen of Comps" Scott's "Frugal Vegas" has a cult following and you know you're always going to pick up a useful tip or three from her, while David McKee's "Stiffs & Georges" combines all kinds of qualities that we like and admire: It's informed, erudite, acerbic, sardonic, sometimes sweary, and it has pictures! And, if you're thinking of buying property in Las Vegas, Robin Camacho's "House Advantage" is also well worth a read, as is her unique Top 10 Real Estate Values feature, which several of you picked as an "Other." As one reader responded, "While lots of your features have been hugely helpful, I'd have to choose the House Advantage blog as my favorite... This blog motivated me to contact Robin, and she (and Ron) helped me buy 2 investment properties!!" Sweet!
So far, the only casualty has been "Vegas TV," which we know some of you really liked, but not enough of you to keep it going. It was soooooooo time-consuming to put that feature together every week. There was no single easy source for the information, so it took one of our researchers the better part of a day to compile it, and with only 62 fans... Just not worth that effort. If we find an easier way to do it, we'll try to bring it back sometime.
As far as the main thing we missed is concerned, that would have to be the Top 10 Values (in "Features" column on the home page), which we totally forgot to include as an option. As one person wrote in, "HEY, Dummy, Why did you leave TOP TEN VALUES off? I have found lots of good, no make that GREAT values there. P.S. I look at your site EVERY day. Good work." [Ed: Okay, Jim, you just redeemed yourself from the "Dummy" remark. We're all human ; ) And thanks!]
