Analysis

This was a poll that a lot of readers have been urging us to conduct for some time, and we aim to please. It yielded some interesting results – we were slightly surprised about how many people use rental cars (our mild surprise arising primarily from all the complaints about the escalating cost of renting a vehicle here). It’s good food for thought and we’ll endeavor to get a good MRB coupon this year, although in the past it’s been notoriously difficult dealing with the rental-car companies and often their left hand doesn’t seem to talk to the right, giving rise to all kinds of confusion and frustration. Still, we can but try.

More surprising was the number of you who walk everywhere. Really? Hardcore!

Once we’d amended the "own vehicle" option to be more inclusive, a lot of people chose that, which is no surprise considering the percentage of visitors who come from California and Arizona.

As far as the "other" option’s concerned, more than a few of you have mastered the art of using the free shuttles to get from A to B. For those of you who haven’t, here’s the link to all our free shuttle maps, which include pick-up/drop-off points and times [we do our best to keep these current, but they change all the time, so drop us a line via csAThuntingtonpress.com if you find something’s amiss]. Here’s some of your other feedback:

  • " I'm handicapped and I rent an electric scooter, which I take on the sidewalks, Monorail, trams, casino shuttle, and the bus, depending on where I'm going."
  • "I always rent a car in Vegas for my downtown and side trips but walk or take the Monorail when doing the Strip."
  • "We have a close friend who usually provides transportation to our favorite hotel, the Fremont downtown. All our video poker playing is within walking distance – mostly in the friendly Fremont or possibly the Cal. or MSS."
  • " I pride myself (with the help of Las Vegas Advisor) in using the moving walkways between properties and free trams and vans to get around Vegas. Only use a taxi to and from the airport and to Fremont Street. Wish there was a cheaper way to get to Fremont from the Strip -- I would go downtown more often."
  • "I love to use the Monorail and would love it if it went downtown and out to the airport. I am slowly learning the bus system to and from downtown and the Strip. I also do a lot of walking. I seldom take a cab unless it’s late at night."
  • "Renting a car works best for me. It allows us to go visit locals casinos, eat at different restaurants, go to see the progress at the Hoover Dam bridge (I am an engineer and this just fascinates me), go to Red Rock Canyon and Mt. Charleston, etc. Also thanks to LVA I have learned many short cuts around town so I don’t sit on the Strip for hours."
  • "We always rent a car but we do enjoy walking the Strip till we can’t walk anymore."
