| I love downtown – the historic vibe, the walkability, the better games, the friendly staff. It’s still my favorite Vegas hangout. |
|
| I like the direction that downtown is going, but I think there’s a long way to go before I’d consider staying or hanging out down there. |
|
| I really like the "arthouse" atmosphere that’s growing downtown – the cool bars on Fremont East, the funky hole-in-the-wall restaurants, antique shops and galleries, the Neon Boneyard, First Fridays, the new Cabana Suites… I’d like to see this built on and will continue to support these efforts – it’s a really refreshing change to the Strip and it’s great to see downtown getting its own character again. |
|
| I used to enjoy spending time downtown, but these days it seems to have really degenerated and I don’t feel comfortable or safe walking around anymore, so I don’t spend time there. |
|
| I’m sorry, but I think downtown’s just a kitsch dump with nothing to offer but gaudy lighting, oversized cocktails, and trashy trinkets. If they want downtown to work, they need to bulldoze the lot and start over. |

Analysis
As always, thanks for the feedback. For the majority of voters, who one way or another prefer downtown Las Vegas, the 2010 Member Rewards package should be a real treat, with great dining, room, and gaming offers, plus much more; for those of you who prefer the Strip or locals' joints, we've got heaps of deals for you, too! Check out the 2-for-1 buffet deals at Mirage and M Resort, not to mention show discounts for Carrot Top, George Wallace and Peepshow. Here's some of your feedack:
- I like downtown because it makes the lower-end gambler like me feel wanted. When I come to Las Vegas, I don't have thousands to spend like some people, but I still like to have fun and downtown makes me feel welcome even if I'm not a high roller.
- Being in my early '50s,and tiring of the over-charging on the Strip, I have headed back downtown. The Strip joints want me to pay for drinks while playing $1 video poker? That's BS! You can easily go through several hundred dollars on a game while paying 8 bucks a drink and I'm done with that."
- I have no problem with downtown Las Vegas. While it can be "spotty" in its cleanliness, generally speaking downtown needs to retain its positive exclusive identity. I have been going there the last 30+ years on occasion, and remember playing 25 cent craps... Those were the days! With the Strip catering to high-end gamblers, who love to show people that they can afford to lose a lot of money, I'll stick to the low-brow places, where anonimty is still a thing of value. See you in the shadows.
- "I vote for start over. Though I've never had a problem, I don't feel that safe downtown, especially late at night. All of the hotel parking garages seem to be poorly maintained, dimly lit, and just plain scary, except for the Golden Nugget garage, which seems OK. Speaking of parking, after three hours or so, you have to start paying for it. They don't charge for parking on the Strip. Friendly staff? Except for a few party pits, most of the downtown dealers seem overworked, underpaid, and somewhat depressed, like they can't wait for their next break. The pit bosses glare at anyone who wins a few bucks. Finally, the cigarette smoke is thick everywhere, with no effort made to accommodate non-smokers. In sum, Downtown really needs a fresh start. Only the Golden Nugget seems to be trying.
- I voted for "Love downtown" - but it's a stretch to say that it's my favorite place to hangout. I love the Fremont Street Esperience, the old feel, the casual atmosphere, and the cheap rooms, but I'm most comfortable hanging out on the Strip.
- During a normal Vegas trip, I usually stay on the Strip the first couple of nights, then spend the rest of my week downtown. I love the older, smaller casinos, coupled with virtually no traffic and a lot less walking. I love the feeling I get as I walk into Main Street Station from the California via the skywalk...especially if there's a 'hot roller' on one of the crap tables! I always tell my friends, 'downtown Vegas is the best place in the world!"
- Although I still like downtown - especially being able to walk from one casino to another - I prefer the locals casinos for their better VP. Unfortunately, the VP downtown has been greatly downgraded from its peak. No more FPDW, for example. For those kinds of games, several of the locals casinos are much better. Binion's still had some nice daily poker tournaments last time I was there, but you can find good tournaments at locals casinos, also. All of that said, I would still choose downtown over the Strip anyday.
- We voted for the 'love downtown' option. We found downtown to replace our love of the Stardust and the Ho. The casinos and the people may be a little funky, but it'sstill old school for us, and we love it.
- Highly recommend the Cabana Suites [Ed: Check out the 2010 MRB], especially the ones that are not street side - simply less noisier.
- I selected I like the progress but will wait until it gets better before staying there. That is not completely true. It is the closest answer offered but I am thinking about staying at the Golden Nugget next time I am in town.
