Analysis

This was a fun one and we got such a great response. Thanks! There was more feedback than space allows to reproduce, but here's a representative sample:

  • "Working out is a drag but it is always a little bit easier when you can retreat to the spa afterward. Some of them have a big screen TV right in the room with the men's wet spa. There is nothing more decadent than sitting in a Jacuzzi while watching a football game that you have some action on, and then someone comes by asking if you would like some pineapple juice? Why yes, I would love some, thank you. That can work up an appetite, after which it is good to hit the buffet."

  • "When I'm in Vegas, I get to wear my favorite delicately-scented designer perfume without anyone nearby complaining. It's a total luxury for me, since I work with MANY folks who are aroma-sensitive. It's really stupid that I so look forward to being able to indulge myself in this way, and yes, I love scented air in the casinos!"

  • "In a city with millions of travelers, I go to Las Vegas for the solitude of a solo trip. I often hook up with friends for dinner or a night out, but my real goal it to get a break from the schedules, responsibilities and expectations of daily life. Oh, and I stare at the boobies a lot too."

  • "Renting that convertible and hitting the road - could be as near as red Rock canyon, or as far as the Grand canyon North Rim and Monument Valley." [Ed: Did you see the discount at Exotic Car Rental in the 2010 MRB?]

  • "Some of the BEST pools are in Vegas, are they not?! My indulgence is lying by the awesome pools and ordering what could be the most I've ever spent on the outrageously expensive (but ever so tasty) cocktails. It's then I say, "Ahh...I'm on vacation."

  • "Drinking 24-ounce cans of malt liquor." [Ed: We note that drinking is a common theme!]

  • "In & Out Burger!!!!!! Every time we are in Vegas we take a cab to In & Out on Dean Martin Drive and walk back to the Strip to walk it off! So worth the trip!"

  • "My only-in-Vegas treat, besides hitting the slot machines at 3 a.m., is having my yearly hot fudge sundae, with extra hot fudge. My doctor says that I am allowed only one a year and I enjoy it on my last day in Vegas at Ghiardelli's in the Harrah's Carnival Court."

  • "I said splurging on expensive meals, but it's really splurging in general....spending more money than normal on shows, food, gambling, expensive drinks (i.e., Harrahs Dueling Piano Bar) -- things we'd never do in Ohio."

  • "I get my hair done by celebrity stylist, Michael Boychuck, at AMP Salon at The Palms (he also owns COLOR at Caesars Palace and Primp Salon at Palms Place). He is the absolute best at what he does, and his entire staff treats me as if I were a celebrity too! This is no longer just an indulgence for me, it's a neccessity! I need Michael to do my hair at least twice a year, because I can't find anyone in my own area that even comes close to his expertise!"

  • "Alcohol before noon is my "Vegas treat"."

  • "Vegas is the only place where I can totally relax and not feel pressured about anything. I (we) just love walking on Fremont St. and strolling down the Strip during the day."

  • "Staying at a fancy-pants hotel I would never otherwise stay at anywhere else. "

  • "The shows. All the Cirque shows, slightly washed-up stars, magic acts (where else do you find magic shows, now really?). We schedule a show for every night we're in town on every trip."

  • "Drinking Heinekens at 9 a.m." [Ed: Give Anthony Curtis a call next time you're in town!]

  • "In addition to imbibing in a little too much alcohol, I also usually buy a cigar or pack of cigarettes to enjoy while playing VP at the bar. I quit smoking 2 years ago, but hey, when I'm in Vegas, I let loose a little. I haven't had any relapses when I get home!"

  • "I'm surprised you didn't mention the ability to legally drink alcoholic beverages out in the open, as in walking down the Strip with a beer in your hand."

  • "I forgo my health-food regimen and gorge on the buffets at the locals casinos. I use the coupons from LVA coupon book."

  • "My biggest only-in-Las-Vegas indulgence is to ignore the network news and only check in on the stock market once every few days. I find this impossible to do at home. Of course, being three hours behind Eastern Time makes it a little easier to bypass the stock market, since I'm seldom awake before 11 am or noon while in Las Vegas. I like the night, especially in the casinos. I tend to burn the candle pretty hard when in Vegas and seldom have a convenient time to catch national news broadcasts. I like to start my day with a newspaper, but even that is hard in LV when your partner is raring to go early in the morning and would be offended if you read a newspaper during breakfast or lunch."

  • "We eat nine buffets in five days. Four breakfasts and five dinners. Lots of food from the three major food groups: sugar; fat; and cholesterol."

  • "My favorite 'Only-in-Vegas' indulgence is morning Bloody Marys at The Peppermill served by a sexy, sultry cocktail waitress."

  • "Hire a hooker."

  • "Cigars!  My "Only-in-Vegas' indulgence!"

  • "Having 4 or 5 Irish coffees for breakfast about 5 am."
