| I’ve enjoyed the Cirque performances I’ve seen, but it seems like we’re falling over their shows now and I’d like more variety in the Las Vegas entertainment arena. |
|
| I like the earlier Cirque shows that seemed more whimsical and focused on the amazing acrobatics of the cast and unique music; I’m not so keen on the new trend toward "personalities" and tributes to well-known performers. |

Analysis
This was an interesting survey and yielded very diverse feedback, which goes to show yet again that it takes all sorts. We'll be sharing your thoughts with our contacts at Cirque, who we're sure will find your comments interesting and valuable. Here's a cross-section of the observations you shared:
- "We have seen Mystère about 16 times over the last 10 years and will see it again next trip in May, 2010. It changes just enough each time to keep it interesting and is the most entertaining Cirque of all of them. As long as they stick to the proven format of outstanding acrobatic acts, Cirque will continue to be an experience one won't want to miss out on."
- "I resisted Cirque du Soleil for years, saying, "I don't want to watch a bunch of Canadians dancing around in their pajamas." But I finally relented and saw Mystère and I was spellbound. When asked to describe it afterwards, I was speechless. I'd never seen anything like it. Having said that, however, yes, I do think we're in danger of having too much of a good thing at this point."
- "LOVE is my favorite Cirque show, and by a large margin. I suppose I'll be told that it's because I'm not artistic enough, but I have never been able to tell what the hell's going on in any Cirque show I've seen. I can appreciate the music in LOVE and it brings me back to my college days, when the roommates would catch a buzz and watch the 'Muppet Show.'"
- "My favorite Cirque show is Mystère, because it's the first one I saw and I was blown away by it. Great acrobatics, music, costumes, and sense of humor, plus the giant snail. But O is by far the most beautiful and haunting of all the productions, starting right away with the red drapes being whisked away in an instant. Both are great shows (I have seen each one twice), but Mystère wins because it is the most fun."
- "The biggest bore I was ever subjected to."
- "I voted for O - to me it represents the best of what Cirque offers, which is pure escape from the world we live in. There are few things on earth that offer such a blissful, total package of pure escape as Cirque does."
- "I think that there is too much made of Michael Jackson and would not even
considering going to a Cirque about him. Would love to see some of the other
ones, however."
- "My husband and I prefer Mystère – it is a lot of fun. We prefer the original shows, with as you said, whimsy. Starting to feel there are too many Cirque shows in Las Vegas. Would actually like to see some of the old-style revues."
- "I voted to not see again simply because I saw one on tour, not in Las Vegas. It was a disappointment. I've tried twice to see LOVE, but was dark or sold out. I would like to see one in Las Vegas and maybe the poll will help me pick which one." [Ed: We hope so!]
- "I saw BeLIEve and it alone may be the reason I never spend another dime on a Cirque show. That show was worse than some high school performances I have seen. Criss Angel is an uninspired talentless tool. I went in with a great attitude and when I left I felt like I just got punched in the gut and robbed. Guy L. f****d up big time on that one."
- "Love for LOVE: You don't have to love the Beatles to appreciate this show. LOVE engages the audience from the moment it opens until the final scene. Everyone I talk to who has seen LOVE has enjoyed it so much and has claimed that it is one of the best (if not the best) show in Vegas. The acrobatics, the music, and the state-of-the-art theater are all simply amazing. The show flows well from one action-packed event to the next and is highly imaginative. I would gladly see LOVE again and highly recommend it. Viva LOVE!"
- I have seen too few performances to pick a favorite but am looking to expand my Cirque experience in the near future. My wife and I will see a new one each time we visit Las Vegas."
- "I have seen all the shows except Elvis at least once, and while I did enjoy most of them, the only one I would recommend spending money on other than LOVE is KÀ. Zumanity might be another one, but I hate to be involved in audience participation, and I was scared most of the show, as we were very close to the stage. I've actually started seeing more first-run movies while in Vegas rather than theater shows, as I still get a show experience, but don't have to pay through the nose. And for the same price as a big show, you can do a lot of quality sightseeing, including helicopters and road trips to the lake or desert/mountains."
- "O was probably the best theatrical experience of my life (and I have a BA in Theatre!). From sound and lighting to acrobatics and imagination, the technical aspects of the production epitomize precision and skill. By the way, KÀcomes in at a close second, for pretty much the same reasons. Looking forward to Viva Elvis
- "I would love to see one of their shows, but they're too darn expensive! I think they are others who might feel this way also."
- "Cirque Cirque - it has all been done and after we've seen one or two, we have had enough. Personally, I would rather see a Broadway play or concert."
- "The next time I see LOVE will be my fifth time. I think it is the mix of pure Beatles music and the use of acrobatics, dance, and interpretation of the songs. The music has been enhanced, not meddled with as the have done in Viva Elvis. (Viva Elvis is a very poor show.) Having said that, the first time I saw LOVE was two weeks after it opened. It also had some parts that needed change. And sure enough, the next time I went it was much better. And they continue to change it each time I've been there."
