Analysis

Thanks for a great response – it's always interesting and insightful to read your feedback, so thanks to everyone, as always.

  • "I like Vegas the first weekend of NFL football."

  • "My favorite Vegas event is BARGE." [Ed: That's the Big August Rec. Gambling Excursion, an annual event that takes place is Las Vegas, typically during the week leading up to the first Saturday in August. See barge.org for more details.]

  • "Casino Chip & Gaming Token Collectors Club Annual Convention.

  • "We hate crowds anywhere we go, so we actively avoid traveling to Las Vegas during holidays and big events.  We love being in Vegas when it’s quiet and we have everything to ourselves.  Our favorite is the week before Christmas.  We get to enjoy the beautiful holiday decorations during the calm before the year-end storm.  … Having said that, we have been to Vegas during some holidays and events (there are so many that we can’t avoid them completely).  One of our favorites is NFR because it gives a completely different vibe to the city -- and we LOVE ogling the handsome young cowboys who are EVERYWHERE (we’re over 50 but so what?!).  One last comment:  Judging by everything we’ve read and heard, one holiday we’ve vowed never to be in Vegas during is New Year’s Eve!"

  • "I chose Christmas as my favorite event in Las Vegas for two reasons:  1. My wife and I get to avoid the painful family get-togethers back home, and 2. We have the whole city to ourselves.  Las Vegas is fairly deserted the entire week leading up to Christmas and we LOVE having the place all to ourselves!

  • "I like Thanksgiving for several reasons.  It is usually not as crowded, the weather is usually nice and Harrah’s Great Gift Giveaway is the week after so it is a wonderful time to be in Vegas."

  • "Jimmy Buffett weekends!!"

  • "NBA Allstar Game - Love going out thug-watching and the strip clubs just get crazy!"

  • "The WSOP is a huge celebration because it originated in Vegas and is a true major event."

  • "Final Four."

  • "HELLDORADO! I grew up with Helldorado…and now that it is back…..I am loving it. Will be staying downtown to attend the Rodeo—see the parade and the fireworks for Helldorado. Yeah!"

  • "I picked the NFR not because I like the rodeo, but because I love country music!  They play it in all of the casinos and there is always a varity of concerts to attend and fun events like last year's Crown Royal display next to O'Shea's! We also go during the World Series of Poker, so I may go vote for that also!!!!"

  • "Unfortunately, we can only come to Vegas at the same time every year which is in January around the third week of the month for ten days. Not many "holiday" or special day events going on during that time. In fact, most of the shows we'd like to see are still dark after the Christmas holiday time.  But, that doesn't matter....we still have plenty to do and see and ways to save with MRB! [Ed: That's the spirit!]

  • "My favorite holiday in Vegas is not so much a holiday as a week...That is. the first week of January every year. Starting with New Year's Day College Bowl games through the first weekend in January and the first weekend of the NFL Playoffs... Nothing but great football games to watch and bet on, unless December 31 is a Thursday, everyone that was there for New Year's leaves and hotels basically give rooms away... I love flying in early on the 1st, and staying about a week."

  • "I like the Veteran's Day celebration & parade Downtown!"

  • "I work in healthcare (Xray) so I tend to miss celebrations because I either am working a 12 hr shift and miss all the festivities or when I clock out everyone's already trashed and there's no point in me going out 'cause I can't 'catch up.'" [Ed: Aww :(]

  • "Mine would have to be July 4, because it just happens to be my birthday! :) "

  • "Actually, we love it when St. Patricks’s Day and March Madness are at the SAME time!!!!!"

  • "I love the Christmas decorations, both in the hotels and casinos and in the neighborhoods."

  • "The best holiday is the 4th of July on Fremont Street. I always have a great time, reasonable room rates and they have had some great bands playing. Last year with the summer of 69 theme and this year's planned summer of the '70s theme should be great!"

  • "Halloween... because everyone lets loose with over-the-top costumes attending parties all across town where dressing-up brings inhibitions down.  Halloween is the "Sin Holiday." It is the perfect holiday for Sin City."

  • "I am surprised that you didn't list Labor Day as an option.  The end of summer seems to be a bigger blast then the beginning of summer (Memorial Day which was an option).  Labor Day in Vegas has been a tradition for my partner and me since 2004. All of the clubs have major events that weekend.  The Pimp 'N Ho Ball is that weekend.  Most of the pools are still open and having parties.  There tend to be major concerts and headliners in town, too. On various Labor Day Weekend trips we have seen Justin Timberlake, Lewis Black and Robin Williams to name a few."

  • "We like coming on Labor Day.  The crowds are smaller and so are the prices, to stay, at the hotels for that week."

  • "I voted for the National Finals Rodeo because we have tickets for all 10 nights and now that we can no longer manage  the entire event we share so it is a family affair with different children coming and going. Great fun! This is the only large celebration in Las Vegas that we purposely attend and actively try to avoid any crowded times on our other visits."

  • "March Madness: Nothing like the Madness. Three of us go every year. It's a working vacation, but it's a helluva lot of fun!"

  • "My favorites are any of the days, typically holidays but some celebratory days, on which the casinos offer point multipliers!"

  • As far as I’m concerned every day I spend in Las Vegas is a favorite Holiday!  I would avoid the crowds on New Year’s and the March Spring Breakers, unless heavily medicated. Thanks for asking – Enjoy!
