Analysis
This was an interesting poll for us, with a fantastic response. It was an unusual one in the way it played out: Normally, when you get a front-runner early on, positions don't change much; this time around, "American" was the initial leader, and was then overtaken by "Steakhouse," but subsequently regained the lead and went on to be a clear victor.
With our upcoming dining guide, Eating Las Vegas, which is scheduled to come out later this year, we were interested to know about your eating habits and preferences and doubtless every type of cuisine voted for will have at least one representative in the book (which will list the top 50 eateries, as concluded by a panel of eating experts, plus other honorable mentions). For all those who wrote in wanting to vote for "buffets," this was a deliberate omission, since it was the type of ethnic food you liked that we were canvassing, not the type of restaurant. As always, here's some of your excellent feedback:
- "Mine is breakfast! Omelets, bacon, hashbrowns, waffles, pancakes...rare treats in 'real life.'"
- "I voted for seafood, but I specifically mean oyster and clam dishes that you can get at Big Al's Oyster Bar at the Orleans. Their food is excellent."
- "My favorite Las Vegas food is Hawaiian, such as the great food served at Aloha Specialties at the California Hotel, and sometimes found on the Main St Station Buffet. Also, soul food at the soul food reataurant on Sahara."
- "My "other" was for Indian. How could you leave that one off?" [Ed: How, indeed? We love Indian too!]
- "I'm disappointed that you didn't include Indian Food on your poll, as Las Vegas is home to some of the best Indian food I've ever had anywhere. Taste of India on Paradise Rd. is the only Las Vegas restaurant I've been back to more then three times, and they are absolutely fabulous. Indian Food can be a culinary adventure, and I hope you can shed some light on it with your book." [Ed: Yes, yes, we're sorry, and we fully intend to LOL.]
- "Usually when in Las Vegas I try to go to a 'gourmet room', which is something few and far between where I live - it is not necessarily the type of cuisine, because a large part is the experience itself."
- "The only dining item I go out of my way to get each time I am in Vegas is In-n-Out. We dont have them where I live, and its a nice little trip off the strip for an hour or two for an inexpensive good burger and fries."
- "Fave foods in Vegas: BAR FOOD! More specifically, the food at Big Dog's and at the Four Kegs. Well, actually in the dining area in the room behind the bar at 4 Kegs. EVERYthing we have tried there is excellent, but our alltime favorite is their amazing 'Original' Stromboli! If you have not tried it, you really need to! [Ed: correct. And their beer is sooooooo cold, too : )] Sitting at the bar at Big Dog's on Sahara, playing VP, and enjoying one of their outstanding burgers, is one of the highlights of Vegas visits. Their hamburgers are the most flavorful I have ever had, anywhere!"
