Analysis
It's been a couple of years since we last polled you on the subject of best pools and a lot has happened in the interim, with many new pools coming online, some former topless pools reverting to covered sunbathing only, and vice versa, new poolside/swim-up gaming options, and the continued explosion of the "daylife" scene.
In 2008, your Top 10 Pools read like this:
- Mandalay Beach
- Tropicana
- Flamingo
- Mirage
- Hard Rock
- Golden Nugget
- MGM Grand
- Rio
- Bellagio
- Wynn
So, while the top contenders remain pretty much the same, there's been some jostling for position, plus a lot of you voted for pools that didn't even exist the last time around. No big surprise that MBay continues to head the list, however; with its wave pool, sandy beach, poolside casino, Moorea party pool, cabana scene, and concerts, there's truly something for everyone at this massive pool complex. It's consistently voted the best pool in town in every poll and survey we've seen. Here's some of your feedback on why you voted as you did, plus some picks for "other" pools that you like:
- "The Bellagio has the best pool scene for those who just want to relax after those Vegas nights. It's quiet and very relaxing. The service is great and you can always find a chair, even on weekends .I love the chilled pool. It feels great after walking the Strip.
- "I voted other – I guess I really shouldn’t have voted at all. I’ve looked at lots of pools, and I’ve seen most of them, but in 30 years of coming to Las Vegas an average of twice a year – I’ve never been in a pool. There are other more important reasons to come!"
- "As an out-of-towner who comes to gamble, I like a pool that is easy to reach
from my room. Some pools require a mile-long walk down long hallways or through the casino. The pool at Paris is right off the elevator and out the door.
- "As much as I want to, I don't use the pools in Vegas. I don't think hotels want us unattractive people scaring off the pretty people." [Ed: Aw, that's sad. Believe us, not everyone at any pool is beautiful -- we've seen enough cellulite and beer bellies at even the hippest pools; and remember, beauty is always in the eye of the beholder, anyhow : ) ]
- "My favorite pool is at our timeshare, either Polo Towers or Marriott Grand Chateau, because they are rooftop pools. The view from the top is amazing. I like to sit in the pool and look at the mountains in the distance. I really enjoy your daily question and have learned a lot about Las Vegas." [Ed: Cool. Thanks!]
- "I LOVE what the new owners are doing with the Tropicana property. The pool is wonderful. Not too crowded and love the cushions and towels over all the lounge chairs. Never had trouble finding an empty lounge chair to catch some rays. And not a ton of kids around, either! They are doing a great job with updating the entire place. Stayed in one of the remodeled rooms and they were absolutely fabulous!"
- "The Excalibur...there's a kids/family section and a newer adults-only section (plus, rooms are about $35.00 Sunday -Thurs)." [Ed: They've been as low as $24 recently.]
- "Caesar's Palace, BEST cabana girls in town!"
- "Terrible’s is not on your list. For a hotel its size I think it has the best pool! It’s surrounded by trees, has a nice hot tub, lots of tables, chairs and lounge chairs. I have never seen more than 3 others there at any time, other than when they have their poolside parties, and never any kids!"
- "I chose the pool on top of Binion's as my choice, not for the small pool itself, but for the awesome views you can get while drinking from your own cooler up there. I will surely miss that place and hope it will open in the near future!"
- "Four Seasons. It’s quiet, service is great, and it is just a short walk to the craziness of Mandalay Bay if you need it."
- "The Monte Carlo of course with it’s lazy river, wave pool, and new volley ball area."
- "The Mirage has a great pool, but I stayed there for a whole week and could never get a lounge chair! Give me the South Point over that any day!"
