Analysis
This was an interesting poll for us, and we're so happy to see that Port O'Subs didn't win. Not that we have anything against POS, but when there are so many interesting stand-alone sandwich and sub options in Las Vegas, why go with a chain that you can eat at anytime?
We concur that Carnegie Deli serves excellent sandwiches; Anthony Curtis actually has a lunch meeting there next week. He's also been raving about the Del Mar Deli at South Point, which we see also garnered a chunk of the vote. Non-casino-wise, our vote went to Roma Deli, which does great Italian subs and pizza slices, not to mention pastries and cookies to die for from the bakery. As always, you sent in some great feedback; here it is:
- "Golden Gate's Shrimp Bar and Deli has wonderful deli sandwiches."
- I must vote for Rocco's on Buffalo Just south of Charleston. Their Bronx and Brooklyn sandwiches are awesome. No skimpy all bread/no meat $5 stuff here. Anyone who votes for any chain needs to get out more often, and any shop that puts any kind of mayo on an Italian sub is committing a sin. Mangia." [Ed: Yes, it was Kill Phil author Blair Rodman who first switched us on to Rocco's. Haven't been there in awhile, but it was always good. Excellent pizza slices and good deli, too.]
- Since your survey included sandwiches, then you neglected to include the Triple 7 Restaurant and Brewery at Main Street Station. It is always our first stop when we visit Las Vegas. They have a yummy portobello sandwich, which when paired with a cool adult beverage, is a meal that is hard to beat and at a good price, too.
- "Love the 'capistrami' at Capriotti's, inexpensive and filling. Husband likes the Bobbie. Hui Thai makes really good Banh Mi, and is inexpensive. I would need two to feel full, though. Carnegie's way overpriced. The Fat Greek makes very good gyros, inexpensive on their lunch menu. Sliders hamburger truck makes delicious sliders, see their website for their weekly schedule. Sammy's LA pastrami makes good pastrami reubens and good fries."
- "Click here: POP's Cheese steaks Best Las Vegas Philly Cheese Steaks Saw the poll today and I responded "Other." The link above is for my favorite sandwich in Las Vegas. I happened upon the place one time as I was driving around town. Stopped had a cheese steak, and it is now a stop I make every time I am in town. I have to say this is the best cheese steak I have ever had. I know it is out of the way (close to Arizona Charlie's on Decatur), but definitely a must. I did see a poll where they actually out rated capriottis I believe. Keep up the good work."
- "How could you have possibly left out Bagel Cafe on Buffalo at Summerlin Parkway? Most authentic NY deli in the area with the best sandwiches. And the cabbage soup is to die for!!"
- "The #28 at the Vig Deli at the M … It's a triple-decker with corned beef, pastrami, turkey and cheese. They grill the meats first on the grill so it gets crispy and hot. Then they put everything on the bread and grill that. They'll add russian dressing to the sandwich if you ask."
- "We chose Carnegie Deli at Mirage because the sandwiches my wife and I got were 2 of the best ever. However, there are so many choices (even if you exclude the regular fast food chains) that we have not tried that may be similarly excellent. I'm interested to hear comments about some of the other choices so we can maybe try someone else next trip."
- "ZooZzacracker's menu is small but the quality is great and it's definitely the cheapest/best place to eat at Wynn. The matzo ball soup is the best ANYWHERE."
- "POP's Las Vegas - Pride of Philly Steaks."
- "My 'other' vote goes to Hash House a GoGo at the Imperial Palace, which has some of the largest most delicious sandwich offerings in Vegas...you need to add them to the list!"
- "This is not even remotely a contest. Capriotti's sandwiches are so good I could cry. We don't have one anywhere near where we live (north of Seattle) and this is usually visited by us twice while we visit. (one time is ALWAYS for the flight home). They use REAL turkey. You got that? Not processed meat. It's shredded and done up anyway you'd like--but the one with stuffing is just amazing. I have told anyone who will listen that eating here should not be an option, but a must. Capriotti's--if you are reading, PLEASE come to the Seattle area!!"
- "Subway is our favorite for a number of reasons: 1) They make a delicious breakfast sandwich (a real treat for us) and my wife can eat while 'primping,' allowing us more time to explore the city; 2) They are great for picnicking and hiking – Mt Charleston, Valley of Fire, etc.; 3) They are great for taking to the airport for 'dinner' on the plane on the way home; 4) They are inexpensive, cut in half, and packaged compactly – and usually there are coupons…"
- "You forgot to list Grand Lux Cafe at Pallazo. My wife and I arrived early for a Jersey Boys show in July 2010 and noticed this small cafe near the entrance to the theatre. We shared an Italian Market sandwich with fries (under $12) and it really hit the spot! Very tasty!"
- "The pastrami at the Carnegie Deli is awesome!! Huge sandwiches, enough for 3 or 4 people, and oh so tasty :)"
- "Jason's Deli."
- "I voted 'other' because you left out Big Dog's Draft House on N. Rancho. The same brewer makes the same superb beers once served at the late, lamented Holy Cow brewpub (plus a few more) but, as for the topic of this poll, Big Dog's menu has two candidates for best sandwich: The 'Brewer's Sandwich' of bratwurst on rye with grilled onions and the 'Pot Roast Melt' of meltingly tender pot roast and cheese on ciabatta. Neither should be on a list of the healthiest meals in Las Vegas, but they should be on any list of the tastiest sandwiches without a doubt."
- "Best Sandwich: Toby Keith’s 'I Love This Bar & Grill' at Harrah’s; also The Cheesecake Factory; (Forum Shops); and Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville at the Flamingo. Just too hard to decide on only one!"
- "Zoozacrackers: All of their sandwiches are great, and they have an excellent vegetarian sandwich to die for."
- "Without a doubt, the old Horseshoe before the sale. I once counted 22 swipes of the meat cutter before the sandwich maker stopped. 22!!!"
