Analysis
Interesting results to this poll, although not necessarily that enlightening, since once person's star-service provider is a company the next person wouldn't touch if their life depended on it, it turns out. We know from experience how frustrating the whole process of car-rental can be, so we're grateful for your feedback and will digest this long and hard before we think about which company we might approach to work with, and why. In the meantime, thanks for sharing:
- "I'd never heard of Advantage until they came up as lowest price by quite a bit. Since then have used them 5 times. Never a problem and consistently lowest rate. Nothing for frequent renters that I see, but not a major drawback for me."
- "Under no circumstances, consider Payless. Payless is terrible. I could explain, but they are not worth the effort."
- "Hertz may not save you money, but it will save you time. With a Hertz Gold card, you just walk straight to your car and drive out the gate. No lines, no waiting, just find your name on the electronic board, go to the numbered spot, find the key and pre-printed rental agreement in the car, drive to the exit gate, show your driver's license and rental agreement to the security guard, and you are on your way. No one does it more efficiently."
- "There are a few good rental car companies in Las Vegas, but I just wanted to warn your readers of the worst company, in my opinion - Fox Rental car. Unlike the other companies, they were not open 24 hours, plus had very poor-looking and dirty rental cars. Fox Rental car nearly ruined our Las Vegas trip."
- "Because of the many extra fees imposed by the airpoort at LAS it is far cheaper to take a shuttle into your hotel and rent from a kiosk there---regardless of brand. Often you can return the car to the airport without an extra charge."
- "I’ve only had two experiences with Fox and they were both good. A little more effort since you have to take the bus to the car rental lot and transfer, but the prices both times have been excellent. Have had good experience with Avis in earlier years but the last times I checked, they were pretty expensive."
- "Dollar has come a long way, and now provides service and perks at the level of Hertz, Avis, and National. My experience is to book a car as soon as a trip is planned and then check the rates 2-3 times a week until departure day. In nearly 90% of the trips, the rates have gone down substantially and I end up getting a VERY good deal."
- "I voted for Payless only because they have been the cheapest on most of my trips. They high-pressure the insurance, but I think they all do that. My trip in Feb '08 they ran out of compacts and gave me the only thing they had left at 11 p.m.…a four-door, four-wheel drive Ford F150 full-size truck. It was so big I couldn’t fit in the parking garage at Bill’s! They let me keep it for the four days I was there, gave me a credit for the extra fuel consumption, and still honored my rate of $9.49 per day." [Ed: Wow!]
- "My wife and I stay at the Fitz downtown and they have an Enterprise car rental right at the front desk. They're friendly, helpful, and give us a good deal every time. I've got no complaints about them at all."
- "I've tried several and finally stopped once I found Thrifty. If you become a Blue Chip customer, which costs nothing, you go straight to the second-floor rental area and pick up your car. Quick and efficient, as is their return operation, all done with hand-helds."
- "I used to use Dollar religiously before they merged and raised their rates. This past September, I used Enterprise. Excellent service, complimentary upgrade, and they wouldn’t even accept a tip!"
- "I voted for National because that was the last car rental company I used. However, like the Patriots and the Jets, you can be a winner or a loser on any given day and find the best price with any of the companies listed. I've used several of them and found their service to be good. It's the winning price that gets my attention."
- "Anyone but Hertz."
- "I answered Hertz, but with a caveat. You need to rent at one of their neighborhood rental facilities, not at the airport. Renting from the airport costs extra for the fees they tack on for having the car at the airport."
- "My choice was at one time Dollar, but for the past several trips Alamo has provided the best prices and wonderful service."
- "We used Fox a couple of times.. good value.. save money.. not at the airport but they provide transportation ..we will use them again for the price."
- "I print the rates months before my arrival in Las Vegas and the rates are always different. Their favorite excuse: The taxes went up! Taxes for a car rental in Las Vegas are out of sight and yet they keep going up. There's a time coming when it's going to be too expensive to rent a car in Las Vegas."
