Analysis
An interesting result to this poll, with some unexpected winners and losers, although we agree that for ambiance alone, it's hard to go wrong with the Peppermill. Our personal favorites tend to be the off-Strip gems like Ichiza, Diamond China, Raku, and Firefly, although Noodle Asia is also a late-night go-to if we're in that neck of the woods. For a long while, Ruth's Chris on Flamingo was our ultimate late-night snack hangout, with their great French onion soup, carpaccio, and escargots; its passing was much-mourned. (We've tried the Paradise location, but it doesn't have the same atmosphere and we found the portions to be smaller, yet pricier.)
As to your picks, there were some interesting and valid choices that we'll list below, but we have to confess to pulling our hair out a little when the multiple emails for Coronado Cafe, Grand Luxe, Magnolia's, Mr Lucky's, In-N-Out Burger, and McDonald's flooded in, even after we'd stated in CAPITALS that casino coffee shops and fast-food outlets were excluded from the voting! OK, that got that off our chest. Here are your other suggestions:
- "The Bagel Corner Deli at the Suncoast is the place we love to go to after a late show. We often go out of our way to get there."
- I checked The Burger Joint at Flamingo, but Flamingo has a new food court and I also enjoy eating there anytime. More than one restaurant choice is great.
- Shucks Tavern. Its two branches serve terrific seafood, excellent linguine with clams, crab cakes, burgers, and sandwiches 24-7. We've often been there in the middle of the night, and during daylight hours too."
- "I am surprised you did not list Triple 7 at Main Street Station. Great hang-out with good food, good micro-brews and a great casino."
- "The deli located by the sports book at M. Better then TI’s and the Mirage."
- "Best late night dining? Slidin' Thru HQ!"
- "I voted OTHER. Although the Peppermill is a solid and reliable favorite, we had a terrific late night feast at the Hash House A Go Go at the M Resort last week, which I believe is open until 2 am on Friday and Saturday nights. Great service, fun, inventive presentation, and the food was terrrific! Same hours for the Imperial Palace location, I believe."
- "I love going to the Burger Palace at the Imperial Palace. They have a good steak sandwich."
- "Stage Deli at MGM Grand. Nothing like a bowl of matzoh ball soup and a corned beef sandwich at midnight."
- "I vote for Magnolia's at the Four Queens."
- "Sushi Mon, located at Maryland Pkwy and Silverado Ranch."
- "I voted for Ping Pang Pong, but Golden Gate Shrimp Bar & Deli and the Victorian Room (I guess they call it Café now) at Bill’s are close runners-up." [Ed: Ah, yes, Bill's COFFEE SHOP got a lot of votes, LOL.]
- "I didn't see the option for 'never eat after 10'." [Ed: That's because we figured you early birds wouldn't have much to contribute as far as late-night dining suggestions are concerned : ) ]
- "The 24-hour Buffalo Wild Wings down near the Outlets! Nothing like wings and beer and SportsCenter at 6AM!!!"
- "Here is my new favorite place: http://www.yelp.com/biz/i-love-arepas-las-vegas His food is unbelievable, especially the chicken and peas sandwich and the
lengua (tongue) sandwich (get cheese as add on, per Felix's recommendation), and something that is like a tamale that starts with an "m" that is only for take out, get 1 per person for the next day as a
meal. Everything fresh. Guanobano juice is delicious also. A rave. Shares parking lot with Dino's bar, across the street from White Cross on same side of LV Blvd. Tiny, tiny. Look for Dino's, pull in and you
will see him. Empenadas delicious also, but got to try the Arepas. Apparently they are all over the East Coast, but has not become popular on West Coast -- yet. Felix, owner, is super nice. Really inexpensive. No chairs inside, just a booth with ordering window. A couple of stools outside, that's it. Neighborhood colorful. Near LUV-It. Gluten-free as a bonus. If I had to have a gluten-free diet I would be so glad to find this place."
- "I know it is billed as a coffee shop, but I do not consider Planet Dailies a coffee shop. It's 24/7, center-strip with an extensive menu. Presentation and atmosphere are so much nicer than any coffee shop I have seen. Found it searching for good late night food when Aladdin was in transition to Planet Hollywood; we seek it out ever since...tend to stay at Bellagio and or Monte Carlo and it is a late-night go-to!"
- "This is a problem downtown. I don’t see any place on your list and was hoping you would enlighten us as my husband and I always stay downtown and time seems to get away from us and before you know it, it’s midnight and we’re looking for some place to eat and have a terrible time finding food other than McDonald's." [Ed: We take your point. Any downtown insiders have any suggestions of places we missed?]
- "I don't eat late (or early) when my wife and I are out and about. A salad is the best option, i.e., a martini with 3 or more olives will take the edge away or make me forget that I am hungry."
