Analysis

First up, here's the complete question, which was too humungous to fit into the space available above: Eating Las Vegas 2013, our annual restaurant guide, is in production. For those who don't own a copy, the main body of the guide lists the "Top Ten" and "Essential 50" eateries in town, as unanimously picked and independently reviewed by the city's top three food critics (who happen to agree on virtually nothing, which makes for an entertaining read unlike any guide book we've ever seen before).

The back of the book, on the other hand, contains a) restaurants nominated by one author, and vetoed by another (sometimes viciously and always amusingly), and b) lists of "Additional Recommendations" for specific types of food/beverages/venues that are often more accessible than the majority of venues in the chosen "50," a list which to be sure includes some funky ethnic hole-in-the-wall joints, but generally leans more toward fine-dining establishments that are going to leave a dent in your wallet.

Currently included in the back are the authors picks for the "Best" in the following categories: Beer; Burgers; Celebrity & People-Watching; Cheap Eats; Chinatown; Cocktails; Desserts; Downtown Dining; Food Trucks; Late-Night Dining; "Old Vegas" Spots; Pizza; Special Diet; Steakhouses; Sunday Brunch; and Wine Bars. While most of these categories will definitely be a part of the new edition, there are a few that are on the bubble, either to be dropped, or else to be added as a new category.

That's why we canvassed your input, with a two-part question:

"Is there another list of food-type/venue that you'd like to see in ELV 2013?" AND,

"Is there a list currently included that you really don't care about?"

The results pretty much speak for themselves, and we've already committed to dropping food trucks, simply because they come and go with too much frequency and are really more of a locals thing than something visitors are going to chase around the valley after (not that some of our trucks aren't worth chasing for their tasty treats...)

While the current writer likes the idea of a fun list of crazy dishes, venues, and other "only-in-Vegas" touches like pink sapphire cutlery, that's one that will probably have to wait for a future edition. We are, almost certainly, however, going to add Buffets this year, because whatever your budget, almost everyone eats at at least one all-you-can-eat affair during a typical visit, and the buffet is so synonymous with Las Vegas we feel we have to include a "Best of" list to suit different pockets and tastes. So, thanks for the confirmation and stay tuned! The 2013 edition is well underway and will, as usual, be back from the printer well ahead of the holiday -- it makes a great stocking stuffer!
