Q:
At LVA, we're all about finding bargains and sharing them with our readers, particularly our paid subscribers, although sometimes we have to consider whether if by sharing, we'll kill the goose that's laying the golden egg. So, here's our question to you: If you find a great deal or opportunity when in Las Vegas, what do you do?

I appreciate the money I’ve saved thanks to deals others have turned me onto, so I always spread the word as far and wide as I can if I come across a good offer. What goes around, and all that. I tell all my friends and post on the LVA forums -- heck, I'd even write to Anthony, if I thought it was noteworthy enough.

It depends -- I judge on a case-by-case basis. While some lesser offers I happily share, if it’s a juicy gambling promo, or something that seems too good to last, then sorry, but those I don’t risk sharing and secretly enjoy as long as I can.

I would share offers, especially with fellow LVA people, but I wouldn’t know where/how to. If I think I’ve found a bargain, how best to spread the word?
20% (294)
I wouldn’t know where to find deals, coupons, etc., or how to evaluate whether they were worth passing on to others or not.

It’s finders, keepers for me -- I’ve seen too many great deals killed by greedy types who abuse them and spoil it for the rest of us, so I keep my finds all to myself.

Analysis

Thanks to everyone who took part in this one. It's the LVA MO to share good deals when we find 'em, and evidently the majority of our readers', too. For those of you who aren't sure how to spread the word, we'd recommend our message boards, particularly the members-only "Coupons" forum, as a great place to both find and share current deals you encounter. You can also email us direct via [email protected], or send us a Direct Message via @LVA_Tweet.

Here's some of your individual feedback:

  • "LVA pretty much does the legwork for me. But I do pass on to family and friends the deals I learn about from you guys. I also encourage them to subscribe to the newsletter and invest in the Members Rewards book, and to go to your website, especially before trips to Las Vegas. Thanks for making Las Vegas visits more enjoyable and less expensive. [Ed: You're welcome! Thanks for the kind words.]

  • "I checked "Other," because none of the responses was 100% perfect. I do judge on a case-by-case basis and usually tell friends about a deal. I realize that good deals NEVER last forever and I believe that when casinos offer them, they know it's a limited time. And casinos and restaurants GENERALLY want their deal info spread far and wide, that is why they do them- to get out the word and get people in their doors. So, I don't believe that being secretive helps when it comes to deals. But when there are 'sneak plays,' -- savings or tips that a customer figures out for themselves -- well, that is a different story. You keep that tip close to your vest. Like my favorite: not waiting in line at Bellagio buffet by going right to the bar. (Gosh, don't print this in the response, I keep waiting for them to shut down MY FAVORITE Las Vegas Advisor free perk/tip.Thanks again, Anthony!) [Ed: Oops, sorry, too late, we shared it again!]

  • "In my opinion, a great reader poll that goes deeper than many may see. Coupons/Great deals/comps/etc: These are all promotions, as in PROMOTING a business. They're meant to get new people to try something new or different and also previous patrons to return. Some are also used to show appreciation to current patrons. Unfortunately, there are so many abusers of the 'deal' business (i.e., those who only frequent a place with a coupon, expect the most, and then complain and stiff the server or host -- you know who you are!), that great deals never last long. With that in mind, I only share great deals with friends/family who respect the principle as I do."
