Analysis
Thanks to everyone who took part in this survey. We listened to your previous feedback -- we always do, but the difference is that this year, more of our partners seem to have listened too, hence the increase in deals that are good for single travelers. Station Casinos will be gratified to learn they beat out the Palms in this poll!
For the 177 of you who aren't members, or weren't when you voted, we wonder if you took the time to look not just at the selection of deals we listed here, but at the complete 2014 MRB list and if that changed your mind? Of course, if you're not planning to visit Vegas this year, then we fully understand not subscribing but if you are, even if only once, it would be hard not to get your money's worth, even if you only choose 2 or 3 deals to take advantage of. When you add in the insights and tips in the monthly newsletter, plus one-off exclusives through the year, like the recent deal for 2 free nights at Cosmo for our members, we truly believe most people -- locals especially -- really can't lose by signing up.
Anyhow, here's some of your feedback:
- "We visit once a year and stay at one casino on Boulder HWY and visit a few others, but not enough in your book to make it pay. We avoid the Strip like the plague." [Ed: Aha! That's a pretty limited catchment area and while we have offers at Boulder Station, Sam's Town, and Arizona Charlie's, you might be that rare example of a couple who couldn't quite get the $37 value back in one short trip.]
- "We always have a good time at Ellis Island!" [Ed: Ha! Who doesn't? And yes, it's a huge hub of goodness when it comes to the MRB -- six free drinks, half-price yummy barbecue, and some guaranteed free play? Thanks, Mr Ellis! We dig your egg nog, too, and we don't even like nog!]
- "The Ellis Island coupon has always been my favorite. It's a neat little place I would never have gone without the coupon. I'll sit at the bar, have some free drinks, watch a ball game, play a little BJ and grab a steak and a beer (also a great deal) after I get the munches! Keep up the great work, LVA!! And thank you!" [Ed: Aha! We hadn't even read this one when we wrote our previous note, but YES!]
- "2-for-1 Cravings Buffet: I use it for the weekend champagne brunch. Excellent quality and selection for a top-of-the-line buffet without the $50+ price tag. The sparkling wine flows and they will give you go cup if you ask :) If you are lucky sometimes they offer a 2-for-1 coupon to come back, without an expiration date." [Ed: They do? Cool!]
- "I'm pretty excited about anything downtown, but especially because the Main Street Station buffet is there again. I was introduced to MSS a long time ago through a coupon with the LVA. My play there allowed me to start using points and get rooms comped, but it was disappointing when Boyd Gaming wasn't providing any coupons for their properties downtown. I'm glad they're back. Also enjoy using all the $10 free play coupons at casinos that I visit." [Ed: Boyd's been a tricky customer over the last few years, but we're delighted to have them back, too, and we love what's happening downtown. That 2-for-1 slice at Pizza Rock will def. be worth checking out while you're there.]
- "We use up all the buffet coupons first! Wish the new coupons arrived in December so we could use them the first few days of January." [Ed: They were in-house, and so were we, on Jan. 2; we can't do much better than that!]
- "We actually love the Sam's Town 2-for-1 buffet, especially the Mexican station, as well as the desserts!"
- "I forgot to bring my 2013 MRB on my trip!" [Ed: OMG!!! NOOOOO!!!! But listen, silly, all you needed to do was give us a call and swing by the office -- we'd have happily given you a replacement, so make sure that never happens again, OK?!]
- "I haven’t received my 2014 book yet so can’t comment on specific offers. However I was very happy with the increased number of offers for singles in the 2013 book and am certainly hoping that trend continues in the 2014 book." [Ed: Ask, and you shall receive!]
- "Really appreciate the 2/1 at Peppermill, Reno. We are in Vegas 2 times/year and share fall trip with Lake Tahoe/Reno. Glad to see a few non-Vegas coupons. Like to see more. Also glad to see Boyd back in."
- "Much as I enjoy your site, these sort of coupons are the reason I don't spring for a membership. I travel solo and 2-for-1 coupons are useless to me. I also don't rent a car so any coupons that aren't right on the Strip or downtown don't do me any good either." [Ed: Understood. Take a look at this year's list -- you should find plenty value as a single traveler, both on the Strip and downtown.]
- "Binion's Steak House is a good one that I always use." [Ed: Agreed. And they'll take that 25% off the bill regardless of the size of your party, so take a couple of friends with you!]
- "The offers are not that great. You can get most of them from various magazines and such when you get to Las Vegas. I say drop the MRB book and give a dIscount on LVA membership instead." [Ed: Um, thanks for the feedback, but we can't think of many offers in the MRB that you can find in any freebie mag., or anywhere else, for that matter. But if you find our offers from Ellis Island, Station, Trop, the D, Mirage, House of Blues, or Boyd someplace else, please show us. As to your idea, the MRB is such a huge part of the membership, we have a feeling most members would be pretty nonplussed if we dropped it.]
- "El Cortez 2-for-1 Cabana Suite is my favorite!" [Ed: Right?! That place is soooo cool. And 2 nights downtown for $45? That's hard to beat.]
