Analysis
That was an interesting result and we were a little surprised by the runaway winner, but it's nice to see enthusiasm for the Monorail. As far as a lot of the options are concerned, evidently it's just as well they never got off the drawing board, judging by our readers' non-interest! Here's some of your specific feedback:
- "I would have loved to see both Fontainebleu AND Echelon built -- the later as long as it didn't look as gawdy as CityCenter. That place, IMO, ruined the look of the Strip, period. I have no desire to see another place in Vegas that you need a road map to get around."
- "An elevated monorail system that ran down the middle of Las Vegas Blvd, the strip, not behind everything." [Ed: That was the original plan, but it was apparently scuppered by the casinos, who claimed it would "uglify" the look of the Strip and, more importantly, that this improved ease of access might more easily encourage people to leave their casinos more.]

- "A truly Country/Western-themed casino. I miss the cow palace." [Ed: We're not sure if you're referring to the Holy Cow as a "palace," which seems something of an exaggeration, or if that's a typo and you're just referring to it as the "cow place" -- not that it was ever particularly "Western"-themed, so perhaps you didn't mean either of these things! If the project that didn't happen was Max Baer's plan for a Beverly Hillbillies-themed hotel-casino, that project was actually slated for Carson City, but after more than a decade elapsed since Baer's announcement, and several parcels of land purchased, it's still no closer to a reality.]
- "Wish I could have voted for more than 1. There are many on that list that would have been nice."
- "I was going to vote for the Star Trek Resort/Casino. But since that project was never intended to be a resort OR a casino, I instead voted for the monorail extensions (and STILL hope those eventually comes to fruition). While I would have loved to see the USS Enterprise project succeed, I'm in a minority of Star Trek fans who, after reading the Paramount CEO's reason for killing the idea, agree with him. Full story: collider.com/star-trek-enterprise-vegas." [Ed: We stand corrected! You're right, our memory did not serve us so well on this occasion and the full-size USS Enterprise project that almost came to downtown Las Vegas in the early '90s, but which eventually was scuppered by the head of Paramount Pictures, clearing the way for the Fremont Street Experience, was to feature rides, live entertainment, a restaurant, and other themed attractions, but no hotel or casino (which was part of its problem, but since the attraction was to be funded, like the FSE, by the neighboring casino properties, they were hardly going to finance a competitive product). Fast forward to 2008 when the Star Trek Experience closed at the Las Vegas Hilton, and again there were rumors that it would be reincarnated downtown, but this time Neonopolis lost the licensing rights thanks to lack of funds.]

- "Wanted to see Bob Stupak's Titantic casino done, but it was shot down by bureaucrats."
- "Excited about Chick-fil-A coming to Vegas; was a disappointment when all it turned out to be was a rumor."[Ed: LVA has never tasted Chick-fil-A, but as publishers we have to object strongly to the name, which is just all sorts of wrong. Even if the food tastes like ambrosia, we couldn't eat it on the grounds of such heinous crimes against the English AND French languages. Suddenly we have a new-found respect for El Pollo Loco! :-)]
- "Picked one, but it is amazing how little I care that none of these came to fruition. I don't think any of them would have filled a gaping void." [Ed: So it would seem, as we commented in the intro. Funny how things work out, huh?]
- "For practicality, I picked the Monorail from the airport to the Strip. However, the Star Trek resort-casino [Ed: We goofed slightly; see above!] and the Brad Pitt & George Clooney boutique dress-code casino were close 2nd and 3rd choices."
